    Modified Big Daddy Stability

This is an old thread but I had the exact same question. I'm doing a stock build of the Estes Big Daddy for my small field fleet. I will be adding an ounce of nose weight. Thanks for all the replies.

Rocketry programs and Android vs Windows

Greetings fellow rocketeers! Most of the apps and programs that I use these days run on Android. About the only thing left that I need a Windows PC for is RockSim or Open Rocket. I'll probably keep a Windows PC going for many years yet but I've been considering the idea of a Chrome Box rather...

    Apogee Zephyr L1 Build

Be sure to add a dab of epoxy or Loctite to the eybolt and nut to prevent it from unscrewing itself. It appears to have a lock washer but I always use the belt and suspenders approach.

    Flight Logging

I use a spreadsheet with the following headings: Date Rocket Name Motor Weight (lb/oz) Diameter (in) Cd Ejection/Altitude Wind (mph) Post Flight Status Flight Location Notes

    Switch for bulkheads

I'm curious, how does the switch operate? I'm guessing you have to pull up and then flip the switch.

Cell phone SMS remote weather station?

I'll second ksaves and say that it's a great idea and APRS is a great way to publish the weather data. I'd love to put one up at our field but I doubt it would last more than a month before being vandalized.

    Arduino controlled Altimeter for CannonBall

I had a stupid thought. If you can see the bowling ball in the air maybe the old fashioned Estes Alti Trak would work. With 2 of them/people on either side of the field you'd get a pretty accurate altitude. That is if you can see it.

    Non-Rocket Use of Mobius Camera

There's a myriad number of ways to do it but it will take turning your laptop into a server. It's more cost and hassle than it's worth. It's easier and cheaper to purchase a WiFi webcam, a Foscam can be had for about $65, and save the Mobius for your rockets.

    New Aerotech motor files

    Thank you Mark.

    Soloshot camera for rockets

Does anybody have any experience with the Soloshot robot camera? https://shop.soloshot.com/?gclid=CIPY5-DZ1c0CFYlcfgodZJUCpw I'm thinking it might do a better job getting video of an up close liftoff than I can with a handheld camera from a 1000'.

    New APRS receiving station

I'll be interested in hearing how it works out. I have the Mobilinkd TNC and have toyed with it but I'm still using my Kenwood THD7 for my rocket tracking.

Workshop upgrade - Paint Spray Booth

I would only use this style booth with acrylic paints and airbrush. Using spray can enamels or lacquers may result in an explosion from the motor sparks.

Mobius 1080P HD Camera Shrouds - 3D Printed

Thanks for the ideas. I had to look this up and found a pretty good page describing the process: https://tltl.stanford.edu/project/cvps It's outside my comfort zone and probably a little too expensive for my one time need so I'll probably stick with the old school technique of fill and sand.

Mobius 1080P HD Camera Shrouds - 3D Printed

I bought 2 of the shrouds and am greatly impressed, thanks Landru. An artifact of the 3D printing process is a washboard finish. I'd like to make it smooth but don't want to sand it too heavily and risk the mechanical integrity. I'm considering building it up using Aeropoxy filler and then...

    RMS EZ failures

From what I understand it is only a case of early ejection. I wouldn't hesitate replacing the forward closure with a plugged closure and flying with electronics for deployment if I could. I'm going to wait until I can obtain the replacement delay kit.

    RMS EZ failures

I have a 38mm I161 with the RMS-EZ forward closure. Does anyone know if there is a way to identify that it may be subject to the failure that Aerotech has identified (see https://www.aerotech-rocketry.com/news.aspx?y=2015#n2160)? I'm considering adding some JB Weld to the epoxy joint that is...

OK, so what is the LOWEST resistance you've ever measured for an igniter?

That confirms my observations, Kurt. I suspect that the igniters that I've tested are made by hand with less than perfect QC. Those made by Electric Match are made for the pro industry and subject to better testing and QC. And no, I'm not using a 4 wire measurement method. I'm using a DMM and...

OK, so what is the LOWEST resistance you've ever measured for an igniter?

I'd like to resurrect this thread. I've been evaluating igniters for an airstart project and have noticed that there is a wide variation in resistance. I'm evaluating commercially available igniters from QuickBurst and other sources. For example, three of the QB Fat Boy igniters (for K - M...

    Energizer Advanced Lithium 9v

I've been doing some research on 9V batteries for air starting a 4 motor cluster and came across this thread. While the thread is a bit dated it's still relevant thank you. I would like to ask a follow up. Has anybody used the Duracell Ultra Lithium DL1604 batteries? The specs state that it...
