    Please STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nooooo... and the MBTA was *just* getting back together again...

    What's Wrong With This Picture?

I currently have a HobbyKing quadcopter on my desk, waiting for a new lipo because I murdered the old one (silly me- left it plugged into the ESCs overnight and now it won't charge). A lot of it's components are actually just repurposed RC aircraft stuff- AC outrunners, ESCs, TX/RX set up for...

    PBS and Ed Sullivan

Hah, they still occasionally show that up here in Maine (how fitting :P), but not often sadly. American TV has really gone by the wayside now. The British are actually doing pretty well, they've got shows like Sherlock and Dr. Who (though Matt Smith is ruining it). PBS is actively trying to...

Any one here own a motor home?

    5mpgb highway 1mpgb city I'd say that's a good deal

Estes E engines- old vs. new (POLL)

I've tabulated the results so far, and interestingly I found that while the E12 has a lower failure rate, it is not statistically significant. The failure rate I got for E12s, when compared to the failure rate of E15s, shows that among motors sampled it is possible (~13.8% chance) that the E12s...

    June 15th MMMSC

I came with eggplant and also invited a few senior friends of mine from our school's FIRST robotics team. Flew an Initiator on a G76, great flight! Sadly I lost it to that swamp in the middle of the field. Dan graciously helped me look for it, but even after going through it a couple of times...

Estes E engines- old vs. new (POLL)

Thanks for the responses so far! Can we get some more? Currently the sample size does not allow me to perform an accurate stat test. 5 more E15s, and 26 more E12s should do it. I can still do some testing but it won't be as accurate as I'd like. Here's what I have for you guys so far: Out of 40...

How far do you drive for launches?

For small LPR at a personal launch, I just go to the local elementary school's soccer field. Somewhat small and enclosed on all sides by rocket-eating trees but large enough for As and Bs. For anything larger I go to either MMMSClub down in Berwick (about an hour drive) or to Amesbury CMASS...

Estes E engines- old vs. new (POLL)

Thanks for the responses so far everyone! I didn't know there were E9s with bad date codes... Anyone have them, just out of curiosity? I have a pack waiting to fly in my range box. If they're bad I'll have some clusterfun...

Estes E engines- old vs. new (POLL)

Hello all! I'm conducting a poll for a project in my statistics class. I'm sure you all have had experience of some sort with them, be it flying them, or being treated to an obliterated lower half of your rocket. After noticing that the reintroduced E12s still have a high failure rate, I want...

    Hobbylinc and HAZMAT

I think it has everything to do with the amount of propellant in a single bag. The F reloads are single grain, whereas the G loads are 2-grain, each kept in a separate bag inside the pack.

    Anyone here involved with FIRST?

I just spent 98% of my free time over the past 6 months, doing nothing but robotics. I joined our school's startup FIRST Tech Challenge team in May of last year, and we began competing this year. For those of you that don't know, FTC is like FRC- it's targeted towards the same age group- but...

Where did y'all get your TRF name?

One day in middle school science class my science teacher was showing the rest of the class a video on matter. Clearly he knew that this was far below what me and a friend of mine were doing, so he walks over to talk to us about some more in-depth stuff pertaining to the video. Of course when he...

    Safe takeoff speed?

That's actually 10 MPH faster than the Initiator, lol. The majority of takeoff speeds for the giant carpet tube range between 15 and 25 MPH off the pad, w/ a few outliers.

    Centering ring tips?

What's the name of the jig? I need them in various unusual sizes, that's why I ask. Thanks for the tip though, I'll look into it for future projects.

    Safe takeoff speed?

A little over 3'- changing it to 5' yielded better results, but still worrying, lol

    Centering ring tips?

I'd like to get some CRs cut for an upcoming rocket of mine, but my dad's workshop is horribly suited to model rocketry. We don't have a drill press, band saw, or lathe. We *do* have a Dremel, though, as well as a miter saw. Any tips as to how to cut the centering rings? If not, any (cheap)...

    Safe takeoff speed?

Just wondering... Simming up a large, heavy rocket, based on a giant tube I have... Experimenting with what I can and (hopefully) soon will be able to fly, I find every engine makes takeoff comically slow. (8mph in one instance!) What's the least safe speed off the rail that I can get?

Just got a *gigantic* carpet tube...

...and I have no idea what to do with it. It is about the size of an AMRAAM. I am not kidding, this thing is taller than I am, *very* thickly-walled and about 4 1/8" OD (My calipers went on an extended vacation to the land of the lost things that you were sure you put on your desk but aren't...
