    Low Power Yard Sale

Edited to reflect lower asking price. Now it's like paying only $2 per engine and getting everything else for free! I got some unexpected home repairs to pay for, so I'll entertain any reasonable offers on some or all.

    Low Power Yard Sale

Also, a recent PM leads me to believe that I was not very clear in the original posting that I will not ship any engines. Also, I will only sell the engines to an adult. I'm willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet someone locally, but am only willing to ship the kits and parts, maybe a...

    Low Power Yard Sale

Sure, they are the small silver ones on the right in the first pic, but here are up close ones as well. They are simply made from salvaged parts from some students' mistakes. They failed to insert the engine mounts all the way before the glue set, so I gave them new body tubes and engine mounts...

    Low Power Yard Sale

SOLD 3 boxes full of low power model rockets and supplies. I'm looking for a local buyer (San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, CA) for the whole lot, which I'll let go for $160. If you're not local and want some kits or parts (I can not ship engines), I’m willing to entertain offers on smaller...

Wood Glue on Plastic Nose Cones

The fire permit I hold restricts us to A, and the firing area is less than 500' from a major highway. I always invite them to come out to the SCRA launches where the big (to them) rockets fly, but none of them have done so yet. Too far a drive maybe. Maybe they just didn't enjoy it as much as I...

Wood Glue on Plastic Nose Cones

Sorry for the confusion and my incorrect terms. I usually use Testors cement for plastics on nose cones. The wood glue my students have successfully used is Elmer's Carpenter's. I still have one of my student's rockets from last year (he never took it home) that has the wood glue holding the...

Wood Glue on Plastic Nose Cones

Every year, a handful of my students don't pay attention to my instructions not to glue their nose cone with the yellow and white glue I provide them. I warn them that I will not let it fly if I can pull the nose apart on the morning of the launch, but I can never do that. Furthermore, I've...

    Painting Instructions

Well, when it comes to how far away to hold the nozzle, how heavy of a coat, drying time, etc. I was just going to put "follow the instructions on the can". I'm grading them on construction... mostly how well they followed my directions. The rest is for them to enjoy (or not). Still thinking...

    Painting Instructions

Thanks for the responses. I'm not requiring paint, and will tell the kids about using permanent markers and vinyl stickers, but want to give them options. They will have a week between the time they build the rockets and when they launch them, so I'll let them choose how to go about finishing...

    Painting Instructions

Before I go reinventing the wheel, does anybody have a word doc, pdf, or whatever that give detailed painting instructions? I'm letting my students take their rockets home to paint themselves this year, and want a sheet they can take home to remember the lesson I give them in class. I'll...

    Is pvc good to use?

PVC pipe comes in various thicknesses. Schedule 40 (pretty standard in US) is somewhat thick and would be kind of heavy for LPR, but Schedule 20 might be readily available and is thinner and lighter.

    Engine Size

Thanks. I'm probably going to order them tomorrow. His birthday is in a couple of weeks, and you should see the engines in his rocket at an SCRA launch soon.

    Large Safety Code poster

Sorry I didn't see your response. I think the file is on the thumb drive I use for work. Will try to dig it out of my box of stuff I take home for the Summer and post it up here.

    Engine Size

Thanks guys. I think I'll surprise him with a few of mwtoelle's suggestions and let him decide what to use. I know he will build more rockets to use whatever is leftover anyway!

    Engine Size

I want to get my father some engines for his latest creation, but all I've been able to learn from conversations with him are that it is just a hair above the max liftoff weight for an Estes E12-4. It's a 3FNC about 5.5' tall with a 24x95 motor mount. I don't have the Rocksim file to run any...

    Large Safety Code poster

I typed it up in a manner that lets it fit a single sheet of paper, then print it out on 11x17 and post in my classroom.

    Estes Customer Service

Yeah, they made the Mini Comanche 3 and then discontinued the full sized version. From what I hear, it's very easy to lose that rocket due to the high altitude and small diameter. And yes, I was originally planning to get some BT50 tube, BT20 tube, and centering rings to rebuild the...

    Estes Customer Service

I hear these stories all the time, but I must have done something wrong with my claim a few months ago. A bad engine ripped apart the sustainer on my Comanche 3. I got a prompt reply stating that I'd have to choose another model since the Comanche 3 was discontinued, so I dutifully chose a kit...

    El Mirage Dry Lake details?

Yeah, I may just bring my equipment the next time I take my nephew out to an SCRA launch. It's funny because, as an adult, I prefer to let the launch officer take care of it while I stand back and watch, but I too loved pushing the button when I was a kid.
