SpaceX Falcon 9 historic landing thread (1st landing attempt & most recent missions)

First stage seemed to perform more gyrations than usual in the last 10KM before landing - normally the landing approach is pretty stable.

    ICEs and EVs

My 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid will do it. Since it gets all it's power from the ICE one way or the other, I think it falls under the ICE category. As long as I keep the heater and air conditioning off, it is giving me a combined highway/city mileage of 40 MPG (actually 42.4 MPG over the last 1400...

Just don't use the heater in the winter or the air conditioning in the summer.

SpaceX Falcon 9 historic landing thread (1st landing attempt & most recent missions)

I believe they said it was the 100th flight that they have used a flight proven fairing half. Not tht either of the fairling halves on the flight have been used 100 times.

I'm intersted in why they did this too. Shorter nozzle on the MVac engine should be less efficient (although a bit lighter). The single engine entry burn with the 3 engine landing burn looked like a very smooth landing, but I didn't hear why they changed it up.

Tonights Falson 9 is an RTLS. Always a bit more interesting than landing on the Drone ship.

    Terran 1: Relativity Space's 3D-printed Rocket

Based on the timeline on the left of the screen, MECO and staging was a bit early. Perhaps the second stage engine wasn't fully prepared for a good start.

Thank you. For me anyway, the measurements carry much more weight than some subjective 'sounds better' report.

Video: A Physics Prof Bet Me $10,000 I'm Wrong

This was all hashed over over 10 years ago. Yes, the 'Blackbird' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackbird_(wind-powered_vehicle))can go faster downwind than the speed of the wind itself. The power used by the vehicle is proportional to both the vehicle's current speed and the force on the...

RocketLab Confirms Plan to Catch Booster Later This Month

Narrator on the webcast said they caught it, but the helicopter pilot was concered with the 'feel' of the load and had to release it. The booster splashed down and was recovered by the recovery ship.

And good video from both the barge and the booster on landing. They must have seen my comment above

    Today’s New Shepard Launch

Not saying it is not an impressive accomplishment, but I can't help but compare it to how the Falcon 9 performs.

Same here. Just wish they would work on maintaining video from both the booster and the drone ship during the landing. Shouldn't be *that* hard to do.

Sudden crash of a flock of birds

Can't see the sky. Maybe a downburst from an approaching storm. If it can drive an airliner into the ground, it can do that to the birds. Some were killed by the impact, others were not. Peartree beat me to it.
