Southern Thunder 2013 this weekend in Manchester, TN

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at ST2013 this weekend in Manchester, TN. It looks like the weather should be great for this time of year and we should have an incredible launch. I know that there are several folks coming with new rockets to fly including myself and I can't wait...

    The Rocketeer

O I caught "The Rocketeer" on SyFy yesterday afternoon. My son was home from school with strep and we curled up on the couch and watched it together. I forgot what cheesy goodness that movie was. Oh and a young Jennifer Connaly doesn't hurt it's appeal, either. Anybody else catch this classic?

    Help me pick a kit.

Alright, I want to crowd source my kit selection. I am looking for a kit to use as a workhorse to fly my EX motors. As such it will see a lot of flights and potentially some rough flights. Here are my criteria: 38mm MMT (good size to work EX motors.) All Fiberglass construction. (to...

    Level 3 Build:Red Dragon

So here is a build thread that I will be posting on as I progress on this build. This rocket is going to be my LVL3 certification bird. It will be mostly scratch built fiberglass with some plywood for centering rings and bulkheads. I bought the nose cone from Public Missiles, but I will be...

    Laying up 6" tubes

I am wanting to layup fiberglass for a 6" airframe. I have found a source for 6.0" OD aluminum tubing that I can use for a mandrel, however I would also like to make a section of coupler. I can't find a source for 5.86 OD tube to use as a mandrel for that. Anybody have any ideas...

    ProPEP on Windows 7 64-bit

Has anybody had any luck getting ProPEP to run under Windows 7 64-bit? I have tried everything I know to do (which is actually quite substantial) an have not been able to get it running. I am suspicious that it is a 16-bit executable and that is not supported in any compatibility mode under...

Blue tube or not blue tube, that is my question.

OK, I have read up on all the blue tube threads and still don't have a feeling for weather I should trust it. I hear that v1.0 warped but 2.0 fixed that. I also have read that maybe even 2.0 will give warping problems under the right conditions. What is the scoop? I am looking at my level...

    Copyright, trademark, patents and rocketry.

So I browsing around today and came across the flap in the odd rocs forum about scratch rocket that similar in shape and style to a vendors product. The vendor took issue, especially since the builder used the name of the vendors rocket for his scratch build. I guess I can see both sides of...

    The Certinator2 - Dual Deploy

So I am now in to process of the rebuild of the Certinator for a dual deploy Level 2 flight. I have created a scratch build e-bay and installed a PerfectFlight StratoLogger. I think that the electronics work and am ready for a little testing. I am following what I think are best practices at...

    Chris' Rocket Supplies Rocks

Wanted to give a shout out to Chris Short and Chris' Rocketry Supplies. Chris was at Southern Thunder last weekend and not only sold me my motor for my certification flight and gave me some great advice, he also signed off on my Tripoli papers. He has really earned my future business.

    Just got this from PerfectFlight

Hello You recently placed an order for an HA45 altimeter on our new website. While we can ship this order out tomorrow if you like, I feel that it would be more fair to alert you that a new product is going to be released very soon that will be replacing the HA45 and the MAWD. I wouldn't want...

    Commemorative Launch System

I decided that the Electron Beam didn't meet my needs for upgrading so I dug out the metal tin the my "NASA at 50" DVDs came in. Supported te lid inside with some particle board, LEDs, 12v buzzer and connectors from The Shack, switches and "fire" doorbell from Lowes and some alligator clips and...

What sonic locator do you use?

I am looking into a beeper/sonic locator after I lost my Onyx along with my 29/40-120 case. It seems like it would be handy to have and a cheap alternative in MPR and single deploy HPR flights. I plan on using on in my future (2-4" MPR and possibly in my Lvl 1 HPR) qualifying flights. I am...

    Upgrading my launch control.

Hey I am upgrading all my launch equipment so that I can do more MPR and composite (Think D21) stuff when I am out with my boy at the local launch site. Luckily we have a park that is close and promotes rocketry. (The Launch site is next to the RC runway and dirt track!) So obviously there...

No joy in Mudville (or at Kennedy Space Center)

From the Shuttle Atlantis RSS feed: "STS-135 Mission: Shuttle Atlantis is set to be moved from its processing hangar, Orbiter Processing Facility-1, to the Vehicle Assembly Building today. Can I/Should I/How would I adjust the delay on an AT F40?

I have purchased some MPR reloads for my LOC Onyx. I got 2 F40 and 2 G53 loads. These are loads that go into the RMS-29/40-120 Hobby reload system. Problem is they are both 10 second delay. I purchased these and then realized that apogee was at 10 seconds, not the optimal delay. (In brief...
