    BMS School Rocket

I also liked the fact that you don't need plastic cement. Not that it's terrible, but wood glue is just easier and cleaner.

    BMS School Rocket

There are lots of good "educational" rocket kits. I have seen various groups use ones like the wee Estes UP Spaceloft. For a group I worked with, I selected the BMS School Rocket, having already built one just to see how it would go. I wanted a bit of a traditional kit with balsa and...

McDonnell AIR-2 Genie ~ Nuclear Air to Air Rocket

The Genie is both interesting in form and history. I was surprised to learn it was operation way up until 1988, when the F-106 was finally retired. There are some pictures on the net of it being fired from F-106's, both USAF and Canadian F-101's, and of course the only "live" nuclear burst...

    Commodore 64 is back

"You've been eaten by a Grue." I might have to adopt that as a signature line! Kids today wouldn't "get" a text-based game. But ZORK was pretty fun in its day.

    Commodore 64 is back

You guys are showing your age. I had an Atari 800, with a cassette player for input. Of course, that was before the C64. Later got an Indus GT floppy drive. M.U.L.E. was one of the best video games ever.

Another Club (potentially) Bites the Dust . . .

Our local club - great outfit - just announced that over 18 flyers must have an NAR or Tripoli membership for insurance reasons. If that is so, I can understand the reason but a $60-70 annual membership isn't a cost I am looking forward to. It may not be a big deal to some, but add up the...

Out of State Antique firearms sales/shipping advice cautions

Dave Carver's got it right - an "antique" gun under federal law is an 1898 and earlier firearm (talking cartridge firearms). The "50 year +" rule mentioned is that any firearm fifty years or older is considered a "curio and relic" firearm - not the same thing as an "antique" firearm under...

Big QUEST 40% Off Back To School Sale

They are probably working through a slew of orders. Including mine! I threw in a couple of D5-4's and am trying to figure out what semi-disposable platform to use them in.

    FSI ****** Dart clone

Love those FSI clones. As I kid, I spent many an hour pondering the Mach 1 Dart. Can't wait to the see the pictures of yours fully finished...and the part list!

Recovering rockets from a mile, with no tracker.

Good quality binocs are definitely good to have. But...I have a quality 8x42 binoc, and will occasionally still lose smaller rockets well below a mile if they are fast movers with a long coast (tracking smoke burnt out)...they just get smaller, smaller, smaller, gone. These aren't tiny rockets...

    Your Favorite Aircraft?

Yes, all good choices! I have to concur on the DC10, though. Douglas built 'em tough, and they will be missed when they are gone.

Semroc Magnum Hornet lost on 2nd flight!

Wow...your pictures will now force me to buy one, too. :)

    Our Club's BATFE Inspection

Government inspectors vary widely...most are pretty good guys; some are outstanding and some are just rotten. Remember the huge fuss about American Airlines grounding their MD-80's a couple of years ago? That had to do with an FAA inspector looking at some wire routing that had been reworked...

    Stable descents

Haven't tried it yet, but isn't a spill hole supposed to cut down on the spinning? As a BAR, I seem not to have alot of swinging issues but I see it alot at the range. I've gone using long shock cords - maybe that has something to do with it?

    Nomex and baffles?

I just bought a bale of ceiling insulation. I haven't used it yet, but I figured a column as long as 2-3 times tube diameter ought to be about right. I figure it will compress but not enough to "flip" and let the ejection gases by. Is it trickier than that? I just used a nomex protector...

What is Your Favorite BP D-Powered Bird?

Wow, I had completely forgotten that as a kid I had a Maxi-Icarus that I flew quite alot. https://www.spacemodeling.org/JimZ/est1331.htm
