NSL 2024: A 24" Diameter 1/6th SpaceX Dragon Pad Abort Test

Draggy oddrocs and their need for zero delay. No coast.

I forsee a four motor header for a Nike Hercules! An 11 motor header for a Tantive IV Rebel Blockade Runner! :)

NSL 2024: A 24" Diameter 1/6th SpaceX Dragon Pad Abort Test

It looked like one group of motors ignited just a tad early but it made no difference. Great job!

    Gary Larsen's Farside Rocket - A BT-80H Scratch Build

I had a big kink in Crazy Train when it was on the pad, but it was near the hind end. The model rocket train was flexible and being pulled up by three canted F15 tractor motors. Some thought it was a bit crazy. Wait until they see this one! Hey guys I'm not crazy after all. Look at this...

The Desert Eagle might be manly but the ubiquitous 38 Special can get the job done! ;)

    High Power - Harness Length

The longer the cooler. I marvel at the magnificent crochet jobs and the careful packing some of the old dudes have done at the launch. That's a really long cord you got in yer WAC CORPORAL!

    Greetings from Louisville, Colorado

Just show up, observe and mingle. You can go buy an ESTES Ready to Fly kit and some motors and fly low power to get your feet wet.

    Greetings from Louisville, Colorado

Just saw the notice and NCR is a go for tomorrow and Sunday at the North site. Pray the clouds break up and some clear skies for the Big stuff.

    Greetings from Louisville, Colorado

Start at CRASH for your level one certification, then NCR for your level two and three. Then load up the RV and head to Black Rock. I forgot to mention Tripoli Colorado at Hartsel. With Tripoli you can make your own motors with a Level two. NCR and SCORE can also launch research motors when...

    Greetings from Louisville, Colorado

Lots of great clubs in Colorado. CRASH is launching outside Fort Lupton tomorrow. COSROCS in the Springs. BIG rockets at the North and Atlas sites on the Pawnee Grassland (NCR.) All the big national events are in Colorado this year. National Sport Launch in Alamosa (SLVR) Memorial day...

Lpr , but a heads up!

Mass producing BP motors cheaply enough is hard! Such a demand from all of the Sputnik crazed kids gazing into the October Sky! Who can solve the engineering problem? Who has the skill set in pyrotechnics and hydraulic bottling presses. Certification is required for SAFTEY! Many tried and...

NSL 2024: A 24" Diameter 1/6th SpaceX Dragon Pad Abort Test

The great thing about the San Louis Valley site is that far far away pad for the big dream boat rockets with really big limits. Get to ride in the TAPS nice truck or ATV out to the pad, just like NASA. Soooo cool. Level 3 space out there for the beautiful cover girl rockets.

Lpr , but a heads up!

Those threads are deeply archived. Remember, you even survived the Crazy Train and Albatros DV launches right next to your awesome Titan and other foamy creations! That was a great day on the rarest of green grass days out on the Pawnee. Perfect weather, cool rockets and no STINKING Estes BP...

NSL 2024: A 24" Diameter 1/6th SpaceX Dragon Pad Abort Test

You know it's going to be fun when the LCO makes everyone stand, ready themselves with bent knees and eyes on the prize! Fanboy looking forward to more vids and reports! :)

NSL 2024: A 24" Diameter 1/6th SpaceX Dragon Pad Abort Test

Wow! It's a hard knocks life for the oddroc flyer. You have an awesome club. I would just put a pole/pipe in the ground with a short, very loose centerline lug. You don't want buttons binding up in a rail groove. I use 1/2" 6' stainless rod for my abominations. That might not even be...

Lpr , but a heads up!

And then something super cool like this gets posted and THUD! I fall off the good boy, single composite motor 3-4FNC band wagon. TRF is such a bad influence on my inner good boy!
  17. Daddyisabar

Lpr , but a heads up!

The answer is to not build silly oddroc D12 or E12 clusters with canted tractors up front and such. Build only safe and sound, traditional 3-4FNC with BIG, RELIABLE motors that don't need a complex BP clusters. Ditch the cheapo Estes exploders and only use non clustered composites. Even...

    Black Powder High Power

I want your luck...or buy motors from your source. I've never had an Estes 29mm cato, fingers crossed. Only two A10 catos and one 18mm cato, fingers double crossed. E12 and D12 Catos...don't want to talk about it. :(

Delay time preference, early or late?

The hardest choice is don't fly at all. That takes the wisdom and patience of a Jedi. As a youngling level flyer I simply ask myself "What would Master Yoda do?"
  20. Daddyisabar

Lpr , but a heads up!

My recent catos have been E12 0, D12 3. I have seen D12 5 cato too. In the olden days (2007 to 2016) it was like two out of a thousand D12s I launched. Always store bought and hobby room stored. E9, maybe two out of every 100. Then things got a little worse maybe six years ago. Then...
