Its really not an issue on a Estes Kit... Small rocket on an over-sized chute. (Although I have seen many break the balsa fins on a hard landing... The purpose of this set up on this 45 lbs rocket is to keep from breaking a fin or the structure that allows me to make these fins removable...

Here are a couple photos from the weekend... The flight was on an M1315. Everything went as planned. The can you see attached to the aft CR is a coffee can. It acts as a "crush can". It takes the initial impact with the ground to take the stress of the weight off the fins on landing.

Eric, I hope all is well! I checked with Carolina Composite Rocketry and Charlie said the the 7.5" Cone - would cost $155.00. Pretty darn good price for a cone of that size. I hope that helps. Todd

It weights 32 lbs unloaded. It is all Fiberglass except for the Fins, CR, MMT, & Bulkheads.

I can only make it down to O'burg on Monday. So I hope the weather holds and I can fly this Monday at about Noon.

Thank goodness this one actually does fit in the back of my car assembled... But there won't be much else in there with it.

The CF DRM Loaded was 17 lbs. I had a 54mm central motor with 2 38mm outboards. There would have been a ton of options with that set up... single J motor, single K motor, long burn K with a couple air-starts, K550 with a couple I's or J's... I guess it really depends on how high you want it...

Thanks!!! It does hurt but to be frank with you - I try not to worry too much about it. It could have just as easily crashed and I could have picked it up in a garbage bag. We'll keep looking.

Brent, I hear you... I truly didn't think it would get off the field based on the other flights I watched that day. It may be time for me to invest as well. I am not sure this one is going to be found.

I have one ready for paint... Estes did a pretty good job with the new kit. I wrapped the BT and the fins with a layer of 2 ounce glass. Post some photos of your progress... Can't wait to see them.
