A cheaper alternative to the PR Competitor 3 is the PR G3. It's slightly shorter (but the booster tube is still 48") and still has the 54mm MMT. Also, consider the BSD Apache (with 38 or 54mm MMT). It uses a 34" airframe but has a 10-11" long boat tail. It would be more than accommodating...

Regardless of whether you go with the Pico or Perfectflite, a single 3/32-1/8" vent hole on a rocket like a Comanche3 should (easily) be adequate.
