    6" Tubefin level 3 build

I got her back from the body shop on Friday. Here are a couple of pics a friend took for me. I am about 95% done with this build. I still need to add a couple of screws in each fin, bolt on the retainer, add the altimeters to the AV bay and rig it with recovery gear. I cant wait to see the...

    "TAGG" GPS pet tracker?

Hi Guys, I have used this tracker in about 30 flights. I have located the rocket every time. it will fit in as small as a 38mm tube. It fell off of a rocket once in the middle of a cow pasture from 8000 ft and using my phone, i put the tagg right between my feet. I am sold! I dont fly without...

I dont think of anyone as doubters. I thinks is good to talk about potential problems and solutions. Its one of the reasons i started this thread. I want to hear what others think of the design and also get feedback from people who have made something similar. Thanks for all the comments guys. I...

I saw the alien on the building and the name of the business and i knew i had to go in there and show them my rocket. The owner said "your in the right place" just seconds after entering the building. They had never seen anything like that and he told me he "I have to paint it!". All the shop...

The paint job is a going to be a surprise. I know the colors they are going with, but thats it. Unfortunately, i need to have the rocket back a few days before launch day so i can prep it. ITs still going to be pretty suspenseful for me. All i know is they are going to use the Shop's colors and...

    6" Tubefin level 3 build

Thanks for all the comments guys. I dont plan on flying this on anything larger than a 75/6000 motor. I finished up the sanding sealer tonight and i'll drop it off at the body shop. I cant wait to see what they'll do. Danny

I'm sendind the rocket to the body shop for a paint job on monday. I dont think it will be done before the Tampa launch. Plus its only right that i do my cert at my home field...lol We do have a pretty long canal that runs the length of our field. Not many folks have hit it, but it will claim a...

Thanks Kevin. I really like the smoke trail and reverse mushroom cloud that you get from the WC motors. It make for great launch photos. Thats the only reason i really want to stay with the White Cloud motors. I really wanted to do the Bucket rocket for L3, but not having an altimeter thats...

It make perfect sense. I think i'll try the boxed tube holder idea next time. Its easy enough and that would do the trick. Danny

I'll be flying it on Feb 2. I've always wondered how strong the fins were on a Kraken. I guess you found the limit. I feel pretty confident that these fins will hold. There is a lot of surface contact for the epoxy to grab on to. Danny

    6" Tubefin level 3 build

Here Is what i gave so far. I still need to add the altimeters to the AV bay and attach the motor retainer. For retention, I'm using the Aeropak bolt on retainer. I a friend that said he wants to paint it for me so on monday i'm dropping it off with him. I plan to fly this Feb 2 at the Tripoli...

    6" Tubefin level 3 build

Hi John, I agree, It would definately loof better with the tapper at the top. All my other tube fin rockets are that way. I wanted to try them like this to see if i can lessen the damage done when landing. I do have the middle ring lined up with the top of the fins. I plan to run #8 machine...

Next up is adding the MMT. I started be gluing the middle ring to the MMT I then reinforced it with chopped FG and epoxy on both sides. Next I epoxied the middle ring and MMT assembly to the booster. I then filled each end with 4lbs expandable foam and epoxied the end centering rings...

Some of the fins were made from recycling an old 6" rocket the landed a bit too hard to fly again. It was already prepped with sanding sealer.

I'm not building this thing to be a runway model. She's got some meat on her bones. I'm expecting it to weigh about 30lbs or so. I am also considering using the gorilla M745. It should be a bit more gentle on the fins. Its going to come down to what the weather is like the day of the launch. Danny

    6" Tubefin level 3 build

The next thing i did was cut 3 centering rings from 1/2" aircraft ply and cut a 24" MMT. The MMT is also made from Blue Tube. Time to glue it all together. I started with the fins. I clamped body tube to the table and placed a fin on each side and epoxied/clamped them to the body tube. This...
