My Club's P Motor Static Fire

We were doing a lot of prep at the time, so the photo was a very candid shot. Didn't want any unnecessary failures :) Ooh, I didn't know that style of epoxy existed. Thanks for the recommendation Bob :) Sure thing, and I'll post when the new nozzle is fired as well to let you know how that...

    OpenRocket Source Code Question

Our dispersion guy isn't an expert, just a student plugged into it to help delegate responsibilities. And thanks for the links to the file locations :)

    OpenRocket Source Code Question

Has anybody taken a look at the source code? Specifically the area that deals with flight simulation? I'm having trouble finding it on github, and I'd like to use it to base a dispersion analysis tool. Or at least hand it to a team to work on. The other option is for our dispersion guy to...

My Club's P Motor Static Fire

We had the phenolic floating in the motor on top of the pinned aluminum retainer. Unfortunately the nozzle failed in a way I didn't really think about. We did save them, and the story is pretty simple and a bad oversight on my part. The nozzle was 4 plates of phenolic glued together...

My Club's P Motor Static Fire

Hi All, I've been away from the forum for a while, but I wasn't shying away from rockets! My school's rocket club is working on larger and larger rockets, and we static fired our first P motor at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry site in Cantil, CA. Propellant was mixed and prepared by John...

    TAPs in San Diego

    Awesome, thanks Dr. Reese!

    TAPs in San Diego

Closer than Indiana, but he's back up in LA, which is great for when I'm home, but not for the rest of the year :(

    TAPs in San Diego

Does anybody know a TAP in the San Diego area? My school's rocket club is working on a C3 project and Tripoli requires a TAP to check production before signing off on everything. I know of some in LA, but none down in San Diego. Thanks, Jared

    "Long burn" defined?

I'm not sure if there is an official definition (like 2x longer than average in that case size), but most long burns either have an offset core or are end burners. Long progressive-regressive thrust curves are another tell tale sign.

    pulse jets as alternative propulsion

V-1? To answer your question, it is out of the scope of the hobby, air scoops, liquid fuel, igniting manually, ect. But it wouldn't be difficult, good valves, good air routing, and a light/strong airframe would make it fly, but not as a rocket. You'd be hard pressed to make it higher than 1:1...

FAA and our R/C friends and flight restrictions

AFAIK the flight restrictions are for fireworks as well as danger. I know disney does fireworks 365 days/year, so they just blanketed the airspace until the parks shut down. Same with baseball so far as I know, but it does also make sense for airplanes that could carry people and get hit/fall...

    Overprotective Parents?

I haven't read the entire thread, but I'm guessing this will still hold true: I'm 22, still in college, but life is moving quick. I don't have my parents at hand for advice since they're hundreds of miles away, but I never discount their opinions. My version of "overprotective" is when I tell...

    Loki graphite nozzles

I agree it would have to be an adult who takes responsibility, and i don't think many insurance companies would be too approving if you claimed a rocket blew up your garage...

    Loki graphite nozzles

Only if you plan on firong at a TRA launch. I'm not sure about the legality, but there's nothing I know of to prohibit test firing on your own property

    closure requirement list

I did actually put that down, but I deleted it when I realized I've never seen a 32 mm reload lol

    Help Modifying Hybrid Motor

I heard it was a valve pressure spike induced decomp that travelled upstream into the tank, but that was also a large volume of nitrous.

    closure requirement list

If you buy a casing then it's just the tube, but if you buy a motor then it's all closures and seal disks (if applicable) provided. Usually you can buy 1-2 motors in a given size and casings for the rest of the lengths. List goes: CTI 24,29,54: Rear closure only CTI 38: no closures CTI...

There's something wrong with the sky

High 60s low 70s down in sunny San Diego. The weather here is really weird. 75 at 10am, down to 65 by 3pm due to the ocean air moving in..and fog! Gotta say, no snow is great though.

    Largest Single-Use Rocket Motor Available?

M1350 is the largest SU motor that doesn't require freight shipping though, so cost wise there's that.

    T2T

You need something to hold the rocket at the proper angle. Any right angle surface with some tape will hold it steady while you apply the epoxy and such.
