    New To Rockets- Design Question

Save your time and get a great resource that you will use for years. Go to Apogee Components site and order "Model Rocket Design and Construction" written by Tim Van Milligan, who owns Apogee. I'm a level 2 hpr flier, but I still consult it a lot as a lot of the techniques upscale nicely and...

    Cluster Failure Frequency

A lot of good advice here. My largest cluster was 14 bp motors (D's and E's). Used Quest igniters. Two launches 1st was100% ignition. 2nd flight one failed to ignite and one spit nozzle. 3 AP cluster with CTI last year, 1 54mm and 2 29mm, 100% success. I have a flight set to use mixed...

    Clip whips

Steve why add extensions? Quest ignitors have them built in! If the standard ignitors are too short get the longer ones that have 8" leads. Tsolo Dann

    Clip whips

Steve, I have some that were custom made for me, but honestly with Quest ignitors, I use them less. I've gotten rid of all my Estes ignitors and use only Quest for all low/mid pwr flying. My largest cluster had 14 D's and E's and the Quest ignitors fired them all. Tsolo Dann

    Clustering reloadable motors

I launched my first AP cluster last July. It was CTI 54 mm J and 2 CTI 29 mm G in a LOC Magnum. It was a perfect flight! this year I'm flying an AP/BP combo cluster, 1 AP, 6 BP. To insanity and beyond! Tsolo Dann

    Experimental "OPEN BODY" rocket

Jeff, Use a launch system that has lots of juice and a relay. Use Quest ignitors. I launched a rocket with 10 D's and 4 E's with this setup and all 14 lit! Good luck! Tsolo Dann

Maxi Alpha 3 available from Hobbylinc

Donald, Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered one. 30 years ago this was the 1st rocket I flew! Now I want to upscale it in 5.5 with 3 54mm mmts! Tsolo Dann

    Venting ejection charges

Don't worry about central lights or not; just get a Xavien cluster ignitor! Wire the outboards to the Xavien and they won't light unless the central motor pops. Tsolo Dann

    C5-3 motors

I burned a pack of these last year and had no probs.

    Need cluster motor ignition tips

You know that you don't have to fill all the holes. 2 Hs would keep you below 640 and the thrust would be balanced. you just have to plug the other 2 mmts. Tsolo Dann, L2 NAR 82124 TRA 10359

    low to mid power

Dogfight, Have you tried clustering bp motors? That may give you the effect your looking for. If you want to go ap, might I suggest Cesaroni. Building them is much easier and more reliable i.e. no builder errors. Cleanup is a breeze too! Good luck with your transition from lpr to mid...

    Need cluster motor ignition tips

Skyspike, Just use Quest ignitors and you need not worry. I did a cluster of 4-E9 and 10-D12 and all 14 motors kicked. They also come in a 8" lead. Adding more bp to a motor is, I believe, an illegal modification and dangerous. I like Loc cluster kits, but if you want to certify, one of...

    LDRS 2012

Mr. Titan, I am a proud to be an OROC member, 7 yrs. Though we have a great place to fly rockets, I don't think LDRS would fly. We have many great people who could make it work, but ALL of them would have to sign on. The sight is a delicate one, covered by a lot of sage brush, and we...

    "new" camera shots

Space Cadet: Shutter speed does matter. I shoot 1/3200 as an average and still get blurring of sparks from a sparky motor. As to shutter lag, my Canon 7D has a lag of .131 sec. 1/30 of a sec is .033. I imagine other dslrs are about the same. At those speeds, you won't even notice the delay...

    Estes - Nike-X (K-70 or #1270) Gallery

This is the QModeling upscale version of the Estes Nike-X rocket.I finished this kit last Christmas and flew it once on an AT S/U "E" engine....flies very well on an E ,as this rocket kit is not all that heavy for it`s size and the fact that no epoxy was used in the build (I know ,hard to...

    L1?

If you have to buy a new case anyway, why not make it a Cesaroni? Almost fool proof build and cleanup with a paper towl! Tsolo

    Clustering

Mr Cheapo, I often use bp and ap. The reason I use bp is lower thrust and more smoke. I like to use Quest D5's because they have burn time of 4-4.5 sec burn making good tracking smoke all the way! Tsolo Dann NAR 82124 TRA 10359

    Clustering

I'd use quest ignitors on the pad or if you want to make sure your central lights first, use a Xavien cluster ignitor, it fires the outboards immediately after the central kicks. If you want to use D motors outboard, I'd use D11-P. I used 0 delay motors and they ignited other motors from the...
