I'm in at Fleet Captain level -- wishing you all the best on this project! I've admired your designs for a long while.

Very sad news regarding Semroc and Carl McLawhorn

My condolences and prayers for Sheryl and the family. I'm another who never had the chance to meet them face-to-face, but had a number of really lovely interactions with them through my orders with Semroc. Our hobby, and the broader world, are diminished by his loss.

    Fukushima radiation in our milk

To clarify: they are considering doing so; it doesn't sound like the decision has been made, at this point. https://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/04/11/japan.nuclear.reactors/index.html

    What has happened to EMRR?

It's still there. It was sold last year, and it took a little while for the new owner to get things up and running, but it's certainly still there. Main page: https://www.rocketreviews.com/ Reviews page: https://www.rocketreviews.com/rocket-kit-reviews.html I just went to both of these URLs...

    U.S.S. Atlantis classic build completed!

Wow. That's absolutely gorgeous. Great job!

    Estes DOM Moonik-I

I'm impressed that you took on the rebuild. I wonder if having the ball split open wasn't a blessing in disguise -- it might've let you get a better seal at the junction of the two tubes than you would have otherwise been able to achieve. Fingers crossed!

    Pictures

Those are awesome! I might suggest taking them to a professional framer, just to see what it would take to have some sort of display framing done. It wouldn't be cheap, but for something that has both a high degree of personal / sentimental value, as well as a high monetary value, it could...

    Songs about rocketships......

"'39", by Queen, off of the "A Night at the Opera" album. Written by guitarist Brian May (who studied astrophysics in college, and now holds a PhD in the field), it's about a group of space explorers who board a spaceship for a near-lightspeed trip. They return to Earth a hundred years later...

Star Trek FMC? Fiberglass Model Conversion?

This is cool as heck. I recognized nearly all of the models. Thanks for sharing!!

    Toy Drive

That was my thought, as well...I'd suggest looking into the specific requirements of the toy drive with which you'd be working. I love the idea in theory, but it could be a bit challenging in practice.

    Turkey,Ham,Lamb or whatever.

That's either one small turkey, or one stretchy cockatoo. ;)

    Beginnings

I've actively avoided getting into anything other than LPR during my return to rocketry. Due to that, it's remained a relatively inexpensive hobby for me...leaving me to be able to spend money instead on my more expensive hobbies (role-playing games and guitars...)

    Beginnings

I'm certain there's a story behind what a 7-year-old Jim Flis was doing walking through a cemetery... In the mid-1970s, my father and my uncle bought a hardware store which had been in business for decades. There was all sorts of random stuff in the basement, things which hadn't been sold in...

    Turkey,Ham,Lamb or whatever.

The only time I can ever remember *not* having a turkey for Thanksgiving was about 6 years ago, when a friend of my mother-in-law managed to convince her that a "capon" was just a small turkey (and not a castrated male chicken). It only took a few bites to convince us -- "this isn't turkey --...

    Oh hobbico

Likewise. I'd never heard anyone pronounce it the other way.

    Beginnings

I was always interested in space exploration -- I was 4 years old for Apollo 11, and remember watching the telecasts of the mission (and the other Apollo missions). At that time, Gulf gas stations were giving out cardboard punch-out models of the LEM -- I had three of them (one made by my...

Estes - EAC Viper (#0820) Gallery

Here are a couple of pictures of mine. This is from an original EAC kit, which I won on eBay a few years ago, but only got around to building this summer. Decals are courtesy of Sandman / Excelsior.

what do you have planned over the winter?

I have plenty of unbuilt kits to get me through the winter. I'll probably also try to rebuild my clone of the 13mm Estes Condor (the rocket portion of it crashed a few years ago, and I need to build a new one). Hoping to get in a few more launches this fall before the weather completely goes...

    Looking for a childhood friend.

Looks like there's only one up on eBay at the moment: https://cgi.ebay.com/ESTES-2086-TOMCAT-opened-plastic-bag-kit-/260677264315?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb19363bb It's an opened bag, but, at least according to the seller, the only things missing are the body tubes (which would...
