Am I The Only One Who Designs With Just Paper And A Pencil?

I always draw out my designs in a 1:1 drawing; that way I can fine tune the dimensions of the rocket if I don't quite like the way something looks. I could do it on open rocket, but I'm terrible at using the program.

Blue tube or not blue tube, that is my question.

In my experience, Blue tube is great! The stuff is super tough, and can take quite a beating. I would say go for it! I used 54mm blue tube for my level two project, and built a scale model of a 1950's sounding rocket. While the rocket was built during the winter, most, if not all of the...

    Its BACK!!!!!!!

All us Canadians are up here laughing and wearing t-shirts and shorts!!:D Just kidding, but in Manitoba, surprisingly, we've only had some heavy frost, but no white stuff.

2nd coat applied, dried and sanded. The cone is taking on a nice sheen.

My original intent was to paint the prepared nose cone with 20 minute finishing epoxy; the same kind used on Bradycros's Sizzler's nose. However, after contacting a fellow club member, I learned that the stuff isn't available locally. I thought about what I could use: turns out we have a bunch...

The cone was then given one more sanding. This time, the tip of the nose cone was nicely rounded, and the shoulder was heavily sanded. Previously, the nose cone did not fit in the airframe, and the shoulder was exactly the same diameter as the airframe I.D.

I'm afraid the nose cone had been dinged and dented several times as it sat on my desk. I used hobbyLite balsa filler to fill em in. After a while I went back, sanded down the filler and reapplied to areas in need of more.

Here's the eyebolt glued in. It features a nut, then a washer, and then a nut, all screwed onto the bolt and epoxied in place. I partially filled the predrilled hole with epoxy, and then the threads of the bolt were coated in epoxy as well. The assembly was then assembled:D The eyebolt is NOT...

Here is the second hole on top of the original. Was cut out with a hobby knife.

Here's the hole in the cone for the eyehook:

And before I forgot, I trimmed off the chipped tip of the 'cone.

Our club was due to have a launch this saturday, but wind forecasts made us scrub it. Nevertheless, before it was cancelled it lit a fire under my rear to get something done. My task: the nosecone. I started by drillin' a hole through the bottom for an eye hook. Once the hole was drilled...

2nd and third set of fillets have been added this week. I apologize for the low rez pics.

I have added the first two fillets to the fins as well. 30 min poxy was used; the fillets are smooth as ever!

Got my license:D Upper rail button screw was clipped down; the button was then scuffed and glued to the airframe.

I then used a screwdriver to screw the rail buttons on for a test fit. The upper button was leaning a bit to one side, but a healthy bit of brute force set it straight. Basically I pushed the button until it was sitting properly on the tube. The lower button was then glued on with 30 minute...

Next, I drilled out the two holes. I used a piece of L-channel to ensure their alignment. The area around the holes as well as the top and bottom of the buttons was scuffed with sandpaper to give the glue a bite.

Before starting the fillets, I decided to install the rail buttons. Once the fillets are installed, they would/will impede the use of my tube marking system. So, I marked the tube about 1 1/2'' from the bottom and at the center of gravity. I am using delrin buttons for guidance; they are...

And finally, I added the "cap" fillet with, of course, JB. I've had better/straighter fins be for, but I did OK. The fins form an almost perfect triangle. All thats left to do on the fin can is to add epoxy fillets to the fins.
