    First Flight Corn E

John: Thanks for showing that majestic flight. It would probably fly great on a SU E15-4W but I had not had a chance to try it. I had used the only E15 in my inventory to strip the chute off of and splat a Big Daddy the outing before testing. :o Glad you enjoyed that big chunk of foam...

    First Flight Corn E

Yes, it will even with the E9. It's not the best, but it works. Trust me. I tried several flights with D12-3 and E9. D12 boosts were quick and deployed at low altitude. E9 flights were shaped like rainbows with the deployment occurring back at ground level (ugly, to say the least). The...

    First Flight Corn-Roc

Consider it a little extra insurance. :) The big things I wish to avoid are sticking on the launch rod and the need for ballast. I can also modify the construction so that the fins are attached to the body tube, then the corn slotted to allow it to slide over. I hope to eliminate some...

    First Flight Corn-Roc

I'm working on that stability issue. The launch lug is moving from the fin to the body tube with the rod running up through a hole in the nose cap. Body tube is also going from BT-55 to BT-60 for more room and a larger nose block to shift CG farther FWD without adding more ballast. N

    Problems with Sheri's Hot Rockets

Well, normally I wouldn't promise something I didn't have, but I'm not normal. Go ahead, ask my wife. Anyway, as Matt Gillard will attest, he's been waiting on me for a prize for a couple months now. The instructions are being printed by my local printing company and then I ship. It...

First Kit Release from First Flight Hobbies!

All: here are some pics of the unpainted prototypes. The small one is called "Semi-Sonic" and is based on a BT-50. Overall length about 16.5" (42 cm). As soon as instructions are printed and decals cut I hope to start shipping. The larger one next to it is the "Mega-Sonic" and is based...

First Kit Release from First Flight Hobbies!

Matt: Thanks so much for your feedback! To answer your questions... The fins are still "Cut Them Yourself" with included patterns. I was thinking 2-stage as well, but that particular setup would be too tail-heavy in BT-50 and 18 mm. The 24 mm version will have to be tested, but that...

First Kit Release from First Flight Hobbies!

John, you are going to shame me into spending some time getting my site in shape, aren't you... :cyclops: I know the website and advertising are key, but there is just so much to get smoothed out and ready! I'd call myself 98% ready to run right now, but that last 2% is just as important as...

First Kit Release from First Flight Hobbies!

In answer to John's questions; Target retail price for the Semi-Sonic is $13.50 for either the Limited Edition kit or the Retail Bagged kit. There are currently 18 Limited Edition and 20 bagged kits. Ordering info is forthcoming because I have to get my instructions printed which will...

    Pre-orders?

Things have a way of happening, I hope everything came out OK. Another thing I thought of is how to quantify the inherent unknown of "Will anybody even like what I have to sell?" I'm still struggling with that now. It took me a year of setting things up and getting everything together...

First Kit Release from First Flight Hobbies!

Ladies and Gentlemen! I am happy to announce the first kit offering from First Flight Hobbies, LLC. Introducing the Semi-Sonic, as seen in this post by one of my Beta Testers: https://www.rocketryforum.com/showpost.php?p=55735&postcount=65 I'll put up a few pics of the 3rd unpainted...

    Pre-orders?

Hello, RangerStl here speaking as "First Flight Hobbies" :D When I did the Corn rockets last year I had a suspicion that things would not go smoothly. Therefore I ended up taking "pre-reservations" rather than prepaid orders. Good thing, too because there were a few bugs to work out...

    First Flight Corn-Roc

Those dudes are really susceptible to wind. I flew mine this Sunday and had a similar issue. It may be stability related or the fact that the fins stick so far out to the rear. Contemplating more nose weight or spin-stabilization for next run. N

    Vendors on TRF

First Flight Hobbies is a new kit manufacturer and retailer I started the beginning of this year. I have about a dozen designs currently in my head and a goal of releasing a few per quarter as time allows. Business will be web-based and will offer rocket kits, recovery devices, selected...

    Who have you purchased from?

I started out scratch-building in the early 90s. My first kit was an Estes Nike-Apache. Fast-forward to January 2008 and my first re-entry kit was a Quest Harpoon. Since then I've purchased from Custom, Starlight, Cygnus, K&S, Flis, Dr. Zooch, and more Estes. I received a few Semroc...

    First Flight Hobbies ( Corn-E )

Charlaine, you've got the right idea. So far you have had more success than I have, and I designed the kit! I tested on a 4 foot rod and dead-straight fins. The rocket tends to weathervane due to the fins sticking way out the back. Also, the sloped nose causes it to turn in flight. That's...

    First Flight Hobbies ( Cornroc)

I think I'll go on record here and re-specify motors. B4-2, B6-4, C6-3 only. Well, you could use a RMS 18mm D if you get it to balance. The shortest delays you can get in BP and I suggest Rocksim for the RMS delays. The foam corn is heavier than it looks and most must be heavier than my...
