Tripoli Mid Ohio May 24th and 25th 2008

Just checked the TMO site and saw that there is a launch coming up over the Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, I've already made other plans for that weekend so I will miss it. I hope everyone else gets to enjoy some great weather and field conditions! Take lots of pics! Tim

    Secret Santa '08 build pictures

Thanks Secret Santa! It is a great gift. I hope to get out to fly it this weekend but not sure if the weather is going to cooperate. Here's the close-up...

Southern Alberta Ballon Launch Experiment #3(SABLE-3)

https://www.sbszoo.com/bear/sable/sable3.htm Very cool photos taken from an amateur high altitude balloon launch. Went to an altitude of over 117,000ft and was recovered under parachute about 3 hours later after bursting the balloon. Enjoy! Tim

MVI (Music Video Interactive) - anyone tried them yet?

I have subscribed to the Rush Newsletter and have heard about a new media format now available. Just wondered if anyone has tried these yet and if they have any feedback regarding them. This if an excerpt from the newsletter for the new Rush MVI for "Snakes and Arrows": The Rush Snakes and...

    First 54mm motor

Well, I just had to share my first experience with a 54mm motor. It was a CTI J210 2-grain motor. The rocket is an RDS Quasar that weighs about 10.5lbs without motor. It was a nice slow liftoff and the 4+ sec burn from the J210 was pretty cool. It was also my first use of an altimeter for...

    Underwater Launch

I thought this was very interesting and wanted to share. It would be awesome to see this with an AP motor! Underwater launch Tim

Estimating propellant weight vs burn time

Is there a simple way to estimate the remaining propellant weight of a motor given a specific time during the motor burn? Just before motor start the weight will be the specified propellant weight provided by the manufacturer and at the end of the burn the propellant weight should be pretty...

    Certified L2 today

I completed a successful L2 flight today with my RDS Quasar flying on a J420R. I used a PerfectFlite microTimer for the primary apogee chute deployment and the motor charge was there for backup (not needed). The timer was set for deployment at 8.7secs after liftoff and the motor ejection...

RDS Quasar L2 Project (first flight)

I finally got my RDS Quasar off the ground for its first flight today. It was a warm-up flight working toward an eventual L2 flight hopefully happening sometime over the next 2 months. It's first flight was on an I366R-M. I used the standard medium motor delay as a backup and used a...

Will this propel a small rocket?

After my wife showed me this, I just had to post it here to see if anyone has any ideas about how this could possibly be applied to propel a small rocket. If nothing else, these guys are sure entertaining to watch! Enjoy! https://www.eepybird.com/

    SFSM Industries & Loki Research

I got my first opportunity to fly a Loki motor this past Sunday. I just wanted to thank Scott of SFSM Industries for helping me get setup with the H144. It was a fantastic flight! PML Explorer + Loki H144 to 2528ft straight up and ejection perfectly set with the delay adjustment tool for...

    Quickburst Hot Shots

This is straight from the QuickBurst web site. I thought these might be great igniters for air-starting a pair of C6 BP motors with a timer. The thing that concerns me is that it states these are for "Ground Use Only". Is there some reason they would not be appropriate for air-starting or is...

    Parachute design hemispherical vs semi-ellipsoid

I have been building my own parachutes lately. I haven't flown any of my creations yet. I was wondering if anyone has any information about the relative performance of hemispherical vs semi-ellipsoid parachutes. From Richard Nakka's site he states that the drag performance of the 2 is similar...

    PML Intellicone

Anyone ever use a PML Intellicone before? Looking for Pro's and Con's of this approach. I am contemplating "rebuilding" my PML Explorer (2.56" diam body tube QT). It suffered a pretty nasty ballistic recovery from about 2000ft this past Sunday :(. If I can extract the motor mount and fins (I...

Ejection Charge Sizes for SU motors

Are there any known references to the size of the ejection charges for Estes, Quest and Aerotech SU motors? Just wanted to know the charge sizes to be sure they will be sufficient to eject a parachute in large volume birds. Thanks, Tim

    Streamer Drogue

I have been considering trying a form of dual deployment with my stock PML Explorer (minus the piston). I have a Defy Gravity tether that I want to use to "burrito" the main chute. Because there is no payload bay, I wanted to use a streamer to control the initial descent. I would like it to...
