Here's the presentation I gave at NARCON 2018 in Houston (twice, by popular demand). It explores a future that continues what Chute Release began, a future in which pyrotechnic charges are eliminated completely in favor of completely electronic deployment.

It's February 24-46 in Virginia. It would be nice to see forum members there.
I think I'm going (I have flight and hotel reservation), even though I won't be giving a talk. Last presentation must not have been interesting enough! :(
If you're interested in hearing about Chute Release and its development, check out the Season 2 Finale of The Rocketry Show. Fun discussion.

Version 3.0 of the mobile app is available on the App Store.
The Android version will push soon (most of the code is shared).
Version 3.0 includes the following enhancements:
> New: Full flight analysis for rockets (a la AltimeterTwo)
> New: Rocket mode now shows initial and final descent rates...
Someone (a kind soul) turned in an AltimeterThree to me that belongs to Bill Barry in the 714 area code.
If you know Bill, please ask him to send me an email to [email protected] so that I can return it to him.
I try to congratulate folks when they get an L-cert and mention it on Facebook or the forum, but now that Chute Release isn't such a new thing anymore sometimes it's hard to tell if it was used in the flight.
If you used Chute Release in your cert flight, could you please holler out your...
Tom Disch wrote a detailed account of his experiences with Chute Release in the recent newsletter of the Wisconsin Organization of Space Hobbyists (WOOSH).
I posted it to our news site here: https://www.jollylogic.com/category/news
For the current version of Chute Release (version 1.1 at startup), there's an assumption made (since proven faulty) that launches will occur at MSLs at or below 8000'.
The next version 1.2 will increase this to cover everything up to 10000'.
You'll know if you try to launch at an apparent MSL...
I've already shared with one or two members, so I thought I would share more broadly.
In the next few weeks we'll be pushing a new version of the AltimeterThree app to add some additional flight analyses.
Here's a look at the Info screen, in which you can see the added items. Fans of...
Hey, everybody.
Has anyone ever sprayed Scotch Guard (or something of similar ilk) on the inside of their rockets to aid cleanup of ejecta?
I saw a comment about using a thin layer of epoxy for this, and wondered if a product made for cleanup might work more conveniently?
Experience?
For those of you who have seen my NARCON presentations on rocketry electronics (here is a link to the most recent), you know I'm working on a locator product. I'll need some future help with this, just like I've gotten your help with Chute Release.
It's early, but right now I'd like to know how...
After learning a great deal from initial flights Saturday, we made some necessary tweaks and had a great day of flying today.
Check out the complete flight report here, including video.
We're expanding to more testing sites, so we're looking forward to finding new tweaks we can make to improve...
Today I posted a "behind the scenes" look at our upcoming Chute Release product, which is just entering the flight testing phase. If you've been flying F-K motors and wished there was a simple way to do dual deployment so that your rocket wouldn't drift so far, you may be interested in this...
I'm interested in how rocketeers might/might not use smart watches in the future.
My working hypothesis is that, despite the fact that rocketry appears to be inherently an "equipment sport," that rocketeers are no more likely to own a smartwatch than the general populace. Another way to say that...
AltimeterThree is now available for owners of Android phones and tablets, as well as Apple iOS.
You can get the free app from either Google Play or shortly from Amazon Apps, and I'd advise you to install it and play around with it (to make sure your device is compatible) before purchasing the...
Jolly Logic began selling AltimeterThree for iOS (Android coming soon) this week on our website.
We're limiting the release to our site to start with so that we can make sure we know how to support the product well before we begin advertising and stocking our resellers. If you have a favorite...
Howdy.
If you carry (or, I suppose, would carry) an Android mobile device (phone or tablet) to the launch field, can you please sound off and tell me what version of Android you are actually running on it right now?
Our Apple beta testing for AltimeterThree is going on right now, and we're...
