    12" Bullet Bobby Upscale 4.6

You should add a giant launch lug just for looks, haha.

Another Cardboard Mailing Tube Build 3" rocket with 54mm motor mount.

Next time I think I'll prep the bay a little further first, but I think this will work fine. Scratched up the inside of the 3" nose as best I could and used gorilla glue to foam in the front and secure the tube and forward bulkhead... not exactly according to plan but it'll work just fine. I...

Another Cardboard Mailing Tube Build 3" rocket with 54mm motor mount.

What scratch-built rocket would be complete without a scratch-built electronics bay and sled. 1/4-20 threaded rod running front to back along the 11x3 electronics bay. This will be the first time using this type of design but so far I'm really liking it. Very simple to construct and seems sturdy...

    L2 low altitude rocket

Generally speaking, 4 fins provides somewhat easier steering calculations but I don't think that's prolly a big deal these days (if you are using rudder type of steering). Most 4fin missiles I've seen also have four canards up front to steer. 3 would require some mixing while 4 makes orthogonal...

    L2 low altitude rocket

Maybe I should add a 12" ring to my DX-3 just for the funzies.

    Where to find HPR Mentors?

The best place to start would be the club where you will be attempting your JRL1. Talk to the prefect, talk to the other participants at the launch. If the RSO isn't busy they can be very helpful as well. If there are several clubs within driving range maybe check out launches at different...

    L2 low altitude rocket

I think this may end up somewhere in gray territory.. I'm not sure where we look up the specific rulings and precedents for this kind of thing. A couple years ago when I finally joined TRA it seemed there was a lot of discussion about whether aluminum tips on nosecones would be allowed for...

A Level 2 Cert with Cardboard - Build Thread

Read through the entire build thread. Looking great! And a nice story to go along with it. As for cardboard rockets...love em. I like plastic nose cones too. Building a little bit higher performace cardboard rocket right now. 3"/54mm setup. A step down in diameter and up in motor size from my...

    12" Bullet Bobby Upscale 4.6

10% of 32in length is 3.2 inches. If you are double this (1/2 cal) you are probably just fine. If you have the little bullet-boy, sim that monster out and see what it's giving you for stability margin.

Got the motor retainer on finally. This is centering ring #4 on this rocket. aeropak is cemented to the CR with JBWeld. I had considered leaving the cap-screws in the wood so it would be removable. I couldn't get the threaded pieces in that ring without busting it (I busted the first one)...

    L2 low altitude rocket

Just wondering, would a ring fin be appropriate for a cert flight, or does that fall under "non-standard" designs?

Another Cardboard Mailing Tube Build 3" rocket with 54mm motor mount.

How I cut baffles... By some sourcery, hole saws tend to cut these very close, close enough for most of my cardboard rockets anyway. I had to do a little bit of touch-up sanding for the 3-1/4" "hole" to fit into the end of the tube. Like 1-2 points is all I had to take off, did it by hand on...

    American Daddy Build Thread

For the places I use it on smaller rockets, that's exactly my reason for using it. Plus that self-leveling effect on small fillets. Actually doing some epoxy fillets rn on a cardboard/plywood rocket.

    American Daddy Build Thread

I have one with that mount size that will just barely get off the pad at the right speed with an E16. I launch it from 8' rails just to be safe when I do that. I kinda stopped using epoxy unless the situation calls for it cause wood glue is a little easier for me. But everyone builds different...

I need more small rockets, lol. Looks great. The epoxy is prolly a bit overkill but if that's your preferred method than run with it. Looking great. You hoping to fly this one on an H someday?

Another Cardboard Mailing Tube Build 3" rocket with 54mm motor mount.

All the Titebond has had a couple of days to set up and cure. Adding epoxy fillets today as time permits. Nothing fancy. Well mixed 5-min epoxy and some fairly quick finger work. I'm not a fan of huge fillets, guess i've not yet found a reason for them. I prefer a very tight seam close to the...

Anyone not pass their Level 2 on first try?

ouch. Glad you saw it through. My L1 I had a lot of my mind, but when I flew my L2 on a J270 (successful flight) the only thing going through my mind during the countdown was what a shame it would be if the motor catoed.

    I think it's a sound decision. It's not a race :)

Keeping It Low: What Approach Do You Prefer for Flying in Small Fields?

Big Fins to up the drag a lot. The little school rockets I'm designing are an odd philosophy. Good performace for size while keeping them low. BT-5 tube with a 13mm and light enough to recover on a streamer. 1/4A for small fields but that little guy rips on a 1/2A and surprisingly fun rocket...
