Clone Crusader Swing Wing Introduction and gauge of interest for a kit

A small piece of 1/16" square balsa strip glued to one wing tip parallel to the leading edge might be enough to induce a turn. Basically adding a small spoiler to one side. Doesn't have to be long- about an inch. kj

Difficulty of Classic Rocket Glider Kits.

None of them are particularly hard- if you have built an RC plane before. I would say the Phoenix probably is the most straightforward- no multiple dihedral breaks, traditional planform, well engineered kit. There were 2 versions, the original AT release and a revised version by Sky King(?)...

Is MDRA Sod Farm or SEVRA Elizabeth City field bigger?

I've not been to SEVRA, and it's been awhile since I've flown with MDRA. Based on the recovery map MDRA posts, the Central Sod Farm is just over 1 sq mi. I don't see where SEVRA says what the boundaries of their Newfield field are, but on the satellite view the most logical boundary looks...

Apogee X-15 Rocket Kit - Side Eject?

Here's an old example from the hey day of NAR competition where the model was designed to open up the body tube to allow for a bigger recovery device. Not quite the same thing, but gives some ideas. https://oldrocketplans.com/cmr.htm kj

Apogee X-15 Rocket Kit - Side Eject?

If you're worried about wrecking the kit, why not build a regular BT-80 rocket about the same size and test it out? That way you get to figure out how to fix any failure modes before you try it on the kit? Here's a couple of things to consider- you will need a hole big enough for the right...

Where can I find date codes for known problem motors?

I asked for a similar thing in 2019 https://www.rocketryforum.com/threads/new-motorcato-org-site-preview.153660/post-1899688 On the search screen you can input a date code you know, like from a motor in your hand, and see if it exists, but it's not a display field in the results list yet. kj

FANTASY SCALE - (Star Trek) USS Atlantis Gallery

I recently worked on a redraw of the decals for the 1283. This 8.5" x 11" sheet has 2 copies of the kit decals and some extras. Based on the scan from JimZ, and scaled using measurements from my beat up old original kit. kj

Competition Scale Model Rockets - translation interest?

Depends on what's in it. The title doesn't give much of a hint.

    Starter kit worth it?

If you want some building to go along with the starter set, Klima has the Pan set https://www.raketenmodellbau-klima.de/PAN-SET.htm?shop=raketenklima&SessionId=&a=article&ProdNr=2111&t=23&c=26&p=26 that has the same size rocket, but with motor mount and fin assembly. kj

Estes Cosmos Mariner - what to do with it ;-)?

And that was an Estes D11-P which may be a good match for the Klima D9, though maybe a D9-3 instead. kj

    Insurance and membership

It really depends on what you want to do with the hobby, and what organization has clubs in your area. For selfish reasons, I'd point you to NAR (since I'm the NAR Treasurer). Do you plan to eventually make your own motors? Then Tripoli offers that. You don't need any sort of certification...

Impact of exhaust residue on slide-wing movement

Sure, you can build some tilt in, I wouldn't put much. Just remember that any sort of control deflection you put in the model will have an effect on boost. Historically, RBG plans have called for a little weight on one wing to induce a turn, I think it was to overcome having a deflected...

    Folding wagon reviews?

We got this one from Sam's Club. has been working great for over a year, both at launches and hauling the kid around. The little fold out table is a nice touch. https://www.samsclub.com/p/blue-wagon-16-folding-w-table/prod20071140?xid=plp_product_2

First self built rocket motor question (ARC team)

I saw 2 teams fly ARC flights on E30 motors this month. One flew to 825ft but was long on time. Ready to fly mass was 341g. You can do this challenge on less than F power, just need to be very careful with your mass budget. kj
