    Extreme Airmail! Mailing Tube Rocket

    Extreme Airmail! Mailing Tube Rocket

Oh yea, that's for sure. I want to buy some Aerotech E30 motors for a proper flight, I just haven't gotten around to spending the money on them yet. I will try that in the future definitely. Maybe even F24. The trouble with the more powerful motors is that the altitude may become so high...

Haha, yes. I thought the flight was a lot of fun to watch! The rocket is around 18.2 ounces or so ready to fly. Estes max is 14 ounces for a D12-3. I feel like if the delay was shorter that it would work. The motors were marked D12-3 but the actual delay was closer to 4-5 seconds. I was...

    Extreme Airmail! Mailing Tube Rocket

Hey guys! It's been a while! Since the quarantine ended and stores opened up again, I finally got out to buy motors for this rocket. As stated before I'm going to try the Estes D12-3 first and see what happens. My sister and I had a chance to launch this thing last Sunday! I present, the...

Nice job! I really like the rockets modeled after military stuff. I think it's cool that they have some history.

Fillet question - is epoxy necessary on outside Fin-BT for G,H?

Too late! The internet never forgets! EVER! Haha, I also had no idea what it was! I like those kind of kits though. The ones that look like jets really pique my interest. I built an Apogee SR-72 Darkbird a few months ago and It looks so cool! Flies well to boot! Doesn't someone make a...

Fillet question - is epoxy necessary on outside Fin-BT for G,H?

Awhile ago I dabbled in balsa airplanes, like this one: and when I glued up the wing framework I had them laying flat on a sheet of wax paper. I used some thin CA and I did experience some wax paper sticking to the balsa. I probably over applied the glue in those areas, but it did stick...

Fillet question - is epoxy necessary on outside Fin-BT for G,H?

Thanks @neil_w! TBII it is! And I also have taken to using parchment paper. Truly nothing sticks to it! I have noticed though that after it gets wet with glue, the glue will peal right off when it's cured but the parchment I was using took on some waviness and wrinkles, so reusing it...

Fillet question - is epoxy necessary on outside Fin-BT for G,H?

For you guys using Titebond II, does it dry faster than Titebond III? I've been using TBIII since I had some around but I'm almost at the point of needing to resupply. When I started building rockets I liked that TBIII was the strongest wood glue option, but now I'd surely trade some strength...

Homemade Motor Hooks from an Unlikely Source!

I was wondering about this since they seemed to be pretty stiff. I did bend mine without any heat treatment and they gave a decently sharp bend with just pliers. Although if I tried to bend any tighter, like the vise and hammer method, they may snap. When you say masking tape method, do you...

Homemade Motor Hooks from an Unlikely Source!

Aww! Sorry if other people knew about this! I thought maybe I had a ground breaking idea. 😖 I'd been thinking about making motor hooks for a while but could never find a suitable material. I was actually out for a walk one day and saw a few of these strips laying on the ground and it hit...

Homemade Motor Hooks from an Unlikely Source!

Guys check this out! Maybe someone has already realized this but in case no one has, the small strips of metal that come with windshield wiper refills are perfect for making your own motor hooks. If you're not familiar with wiper refills, check out this vid around 0:42 I bent one up for an...

Thanks for that! I've never noticed that parameter before. Haha, I do get up to some metal related projects here and there! Mostly small stuff though, nothing crazy. I have noticed that before. So there's no interference between that raised ridge and the screw on cap? I'm tempted to get...

    Extreme Airmail! Mailing Tube Rocket

Hey that's pretty cool! I was unfamiliar with the screw on retainers so I just watched the Apogee video where it is shown how to install them. It looked like an engine block is still required? Or can you size the motor mount/engine block for a longer motor and use a spacer above it when you...

I've noticed that issue as well. The motor position defaults so that the end of the motor is flush with the end of the motor mount. There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust that.

Fillet question - is epoxy necessary on outside Fin-BT for G,H?

I finally picked up some Titebond Quick and Thick. It does indeed make a nice fillet! It goes on smoothly and it's got a nice silky texture that makes a very nice even fillet. It does loose some volume upon drying but not as much as regular yellow glue. I've used Titebond III for fillets...
