    What was your first rocket?

Astro Alpha from the Deluxe Starter kit, which included the launcher with some type of batteries(I think they were called Photoflash or similar), paint, sanding sealer, and a couple of motors. It was everything you needed to launch the rocket. The cost was $7.50 ppd..

New Estes selection at Hobby Lobby

Winston, If your HL has a Clearance aisle, check in there whenever you are in the store. I've gotten some unbelievable deals on Estes 29mm motors and rockets in that aisle.

    Parachute with spill hole question

A 15" chute does seem rather small for a rocket the size of a Leviathan, unless the rocket is going to land in some fairly high, soft grass. My thinking is to have the rocket come down as quickly as possible without damage. I believe the 18" would be a better choice.

Moderator is required to approve new posts?

Not sure why your getting those. I get some clothing ads from companies I've accessed before, as well as unrelated matters, but nothing even remotely approaching what you describe.

    I'm Tired Of This...

FC, That seems to be the case with me. When I see people complaining about ads I wonder what they are talking about.

Wild applause at ESA HQ - "Philae has landed!"

Winston, I noticed earlier on the ESA Rosette website about the harpoon anchors, but later it was taken down. I just assumed the problem was fixed, but maybe I was wrong.

    Interstellar - Wow.

Thanks Max, I guess 2001 is one of those movies that affects some individuals in a positive manner or is meaningless to others. :)

    Interstellar - Wow.

Max, Overall, how does this movie compare to 2001? Seeing 2001(in 1971) in a theatre with only a handful of people was like a "religious experience" of sorts for me. :eyepop: I may go see this based on your recommendation.

The 1966 Estes Catalog, I just got one.

That was "big money" to a kid back in '66. ;)

The 1966 Estes Catalog, I just got one.

It's really nice to look at those old catalogs and relive the excitement of going through each page; it was a whole new world waiting to be explored. :)

So. Any telescope builders/users here? Got a question for you.

I know Edmund Scientific used to sell some flat black optical paint, probably similar to the European brand in an earlier post. That's the route I'd go.:)

What size telescope are you talking about?

Baffle not a good idea for some rockets?

I recently purchased a Leviathan and was wondering about this myself. I was thinking about using one of those Kevlar chute protectors, if they are still available somewhere for a reasonable price. What I may more likely go with is flameproof sheets of crepe paper. I'm sure it is fairly...

The Wierdest Place you've been in?

Back in 1991 I was down in La Paz, Mexico for a total eclipse of the sun. A couple of the guys and I caught a cab to go into town. The driver started down some road heading out in the country and we ended up in a bar with a bunch of hotel rooms connected. We went in, had a drink, listened to the...

    Hobby Lobby Clearance Aisle

Chris, There was a Ventris in my store for that price late last year, but either somebody bought it or they just put it 'in the back' somewhere. An employee had it in a cart one day with some other stuff and I never saw it again. Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing some of those Estes 29mm black...

    Hobby Lobby Clearance Aisle

Dropped by Hobby Lobby this morning and they had a pretty good buy in the Clearance aisle; it was the Educator's Pack,(or whatever they call it) a box of 12 rockets for a classroom setting. It was marked down to $12.95. I didn't buy it, but I was later thinking that it would provide a good...

Cheap Estes PS II AP motors at Hobby Lobby

Whitney, It is the one in Alexandria. If you go in one where you live, make sure you go to the Clearance section. They are usually located in the back, right corner of the store. Let me know if you find anything interesting.
