    Estes or Centuri?

I always thought the Centuri designs were "edgier" (or whatever the equivalent word was back in the 70s) plus they had the minimax engines. But I liked Estes stuff too and seemed to have better scale models. Luckily my LHS carried both.

Recommendations for Software for Real Time Telemetry Plotting (Python is too slow?)

Assuming you are using a desktop class PC to do the plotting, #3 is most likely the problem. As a first step, try just printing the serial data to a console window and see if it keeps up. We would need more information to be more specific help.

Convert PML Tethy's to dual deply

I built a PML Endeavor to dual deploy. I have a Tethys, but kept it stock. For the Endeavor, I figured out what the longest motor I would fly in it and split the body tube such that it would fit. I built the fincan using zipperless design. The piston takes too much space, especially in the...

Were you an Estes guy, or a Centuri guy?

I was lucky to have both well stocked at Tiny Tim's Hobby Shop in Michigan back in the late 60s. I had my favorites from both of them, but I think Centuri had "edgier" designs from what I remember. Unfortunately I told my parents they could get rid of them when they moved from my childhood home.

    Clothes Dryer Troubleshooting

Ours just celebrated its 40th birthday... I did have to replace the worn out drum rollers a few years back and took the opportunity to give the inside a good cleaning.

    The Nerd Pride Thread....

I remember that book too. I so wanted to make that volcano and the arc furnace. As I recall the arc furnace used a glass pie plate with a couple electrodes in salt water to control the current flow. Like you, I couldn't find the chems for the volcano but I did start the arc furnace. Not sure...

Tell me something about yourself that is Amazing, Unbelievable, Surprising or Odd. =)

My former employer flew a BAC as a test bed for radar development. I don't know how many hundreds of times it had been modified. And the test pilots loved flying it. The interior was completely stripped and replaced with racks of equipment and a few seats for us engineers to do our thing. It...

Anyone Modify a PML Tethys for Dual Deployment?

I modified an Endeavor for zipperless dual deploy. I used the existing tubing and it ended up being a little cramped for the chutes I have. I also have a Thethys and believe you would have to lengthen it to be able to do DD. And I don't use the piston in the Endeavour. PML had some sheets...

    Help With RockSim Code

Start Rocksim and then try opening the file using the menu in Rocksim. That screenshot is too small to tell what application opened the .rkt file you have. You might have some application other than Rocksim assigned to open files with the .rkt extension

Do We Have Any Archers in The House? (Target, Hunter, Recurve, traditional, compound etc)

I've been looking into getting involved in archery again. Shot JOAD through my teens in the 60s/70s. Switched to rifle team in college but did a little archery with teammates who also did archery. My interest has always been olympic recurve. Unfortunately there are no indoor ranges near me so...

    Magazine Startup *Please Read*

This and your earlier post made me think about magazines and what purpose they serve, particularly now with the internet. As an old person, I grew up with only printed media and for whatever reason I still prefer reading a printed book or magazine. But this thread made me think about it some...

    Approximate budget

Yes, this is exactly right. Unless the competition requires you do anything "from scratch", then don't waste the team's time/money on it. Master meeting the primary competition goal(s) first. If you have plenty of resources left, then maybe try adding something that counts for extra points...

    Approximate budget

I suggest you plan on spending some of that budget on a prototype(s) to get some experience building and flying as the guys above said. It looks like the competition is a "hit the target altitude" flavor. Pick a commercial kit, get a commercial altimiter and learn what it takes to model that...

    Australian Dangerous Creatures

We were on a mountain biking trip in Queensland and came upon a bush with a biohazard tag hanging from it. Found out it was called gympie-gympie and brushing against the fuzzy looking leaves would be an excruciating experience. Interesting to think that they would rather just leave the plant...

One place to put Rocksim 10.2 crashes/glitches

Something to try would be to make a copy of the .rkt file before starting the program and then diff the files after shutting down the program. Check for both cases: where you do save the file explicitly and where you don't save the file on exit. Take a look at what gets changed in the files...
