Greetings! New member buying LOC IV with lots of questions!

I used the Elmer's "Carpenter's Wood Filler" thinned slightly to fill spirals......the pink stuff. I filled and sanded then applied two coats of sandable primer. Had to go back and fill in a few spots as even though the spirals are tight, they showed through the primer. I spent about 6 hours...

Greetings! New member buying LOC IV with lots of questions!

I just completed a LOC-IV for my level I coming up in April. That was a lot of filling spirals and sanding! I'm eyeballing a LOC VII now.

    29 mm motors

I use 1/4" vinyl striping tape for building up thrust rings on BP motors. about eight wraps stretched tight works well.

    Aerotech 29mm RMS hardware.

Kinda figured out there was a "Caveat" involved, hence the disclaimer. I wouldn't mind getting parts certified through NRA/Tripoli. I'm just a few short years away from retirement and am looking for stuff to make in my retirement career, a small "cottage industry" machine shop other than seal...

    Aerotech 29mm RMS hardware.

When I get back to work I am going to try and make a set of 29mm closures out of 6061-T6 AL. I'm a competent machinist and they should be easy parts to make. I may even try to make the casing, but I would have to turn the OD and bore the ID as I have no aluminum tubing that has the correct ID. I...

First HP Rocket: LOC IV (Major Tom)

Ken Allen (Performance Hobbies) will not be at a launch until April. I may try reefing, I plan on using a Sky Angle chute instead of what came with the LOC IV. We launch at a sod farm, but I have the uncanny ability to hit the hardest surfaces around, usually a bridge for the center pivot...

First HP Rocket: LOC IV (Major Tom)

I, too, am building a LOC IV for my level I attempt in February. My problem is......motors. So far I have only found two suppliers for high power motors, and I have a Cesaroni 2-grain 38mm case. I would like to make my attempt without the JLCR but openrocket says the only thing I can find (H143...

Jolly Logic Chute Release, chutes not inflating....

Had my first JLCR failure yesterday...the chute release didn't malfunction, my folded bundle got wrapped up in the shock cord. Technique is key for success. I got sloppy......

    Estes Prowler ready for flight!

Yeah, it was a quick build, took almost as long to screw it up as it did to assemble it!

    Estes Prowler ready for flight!

I'm assuming this is a repaint. Did you fill in the spirals and did you remove the stock paint? I have a Majestic that looks like crap thanks to using alcohol to clean off some epoxy that oozed out when attaching the fins, it removed the purple paint on the body tube. I got so disgusted I put it...

    Star orbiter rock sim

I launched mine with an Estes G40-7 single-use composite and it held together.......went out of sight, though. I had the chute release set for 300', got lucky and saw it after it had deployed. It was about 1/4 mile downwind when I saw it around 200'. I had one of those cheesy Estes altimeters...

Jolly Logic Chute Release, chutes not inflating....

I regularly use the CR on a BT-60 size tube. Tuck your shroud lines inside the chute, fold in thirds and use a swivel. Baby powder helps, too!

Jolly Logic Chute Release and Altimeter Three Systems on L-2 Attempts?

I've used the JLCR successfully for over two months now....ten launches with one "failure". I didn't do the "shake test" prior to launch and the chute slipped out of the release at ejection (deployment at 1800' in a 12 mph wind with a 24" chute on a lightweight Star Orbiter makes for a looooong...

    Upscale 3" Big Bertha

I have the same love for the Berthas. I like the idea of 1/4 A through G at a launch. I'm inspired! IMG_3024[1] by scott johnson posted Aug 21, 2018 at 9:20 AM

    Cluster Ignition With Estes Starters?

I have a homebuilt launch system that uses three 6v lantern batteries, it reliably ignites my three "D" cluster rocket. I've never checked voltage at the alligator clips, but it works through 50 feet of 12 gauge extension cord.

    Super Big Bertha... Awesome kit

You have to run the pipe up in branches to give it support. Same reason we always put a well in near a pine tree...if you have to pull the pump out of the well you can do it without cutting the discharge pipe into a zillion pieces!

    Openrocket question

I never could get it to sim with a cluster. I just added the combined thrust of the D12s and it simmed an apogee of 257m, which is about what I got out of it on the maiden flight. Here it is:
