    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Thanks! Yes, it was really twisted coming down but landed fine. I made some tweaks to the recovery rig that I hope will avoid some of that tumbling next time. But the lack of spin on the way up was a total surprise! It will be interesting to see the roll rate with a different motor. I have a...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Yeah, I'd say that's right. The camera shroud likely induces a certain amount of spin, because it creates asymmetrical air flow. Compare my Hyper54 video to the shakedown flight of my L3 build, a Madcow DX3-XL, which has both downward and upward facing cameras and has the lowest amount of spin...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Serious bummer. Is there a NAR field near you where you could fly it? The LCO at my field didn't question the aluminum fins, and I'm not aware of any NAR restrictions on them. But I was thinking about flying it with Tripoli Central California as my next-closest field with a slightly higher...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Thanks! I use the standard 1080p/30fps Mobius Action Cam. The shroud is 3D-printed for that camera by Andrew at Additive Aerospace. They're available for most airframe diameters and can be screwed on or epoxied. I put them on all my HP (and some MP) rockets! Andrew also makes shrouds for other...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

After a great first flight "naked," I finally got a chance to paint my Hyper54. I left the fins bare metal and tried to keep the paint simple and light weight, while drawing on various sounding rocket paint schemes I've seen. Looking forward to getting this in the air again and pushing it higher!

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

So I finally got a chance to launch my Hyper54 with LUNAR last Saturday (Dec 8), and it went to 11,290ft on a K850--not bad for a 1st flight! I flew it naked because it wasn't ready for paint until right when all the smoke from the Camp Fire started blowing into the Bay Area for the next 2...

    New tracker from Apogee?

Since I do get cellular signal where I usually fly, I have to say that I like the convenience of seeing the GPS location on a map in a phone app. But cellular GPS has drawbacks even when I get signal. Even though the Trackimo3G is supposed to update its position every minute, I've launched it...

    New tracker from Apogee?

I totally agree about the Trackimo GPS--it has saved me from losing many expensive rockets. It's a great solution for my tracking needs. Words of caution though, for anyone thinking about buying one: 1) Make sure you buy the 3G version. I found out the cellular signal is carried by AT&T, and...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Thanks! That design was the only one I could come up with that allowed everything to fit, and just barely.

I'm really enjoying building this kit. The biggest challenge is that I'm trying to pack redundant dual deployment altimeters plus my usual Trackimo3G GPS tracker and Altimeter2/3 into the tiny av-bay. Just got that together last night with a pair of Altus Metrum Easy Minis powered by 12v A23...

    Mac Performance Hyper54

Wow! I recently bought a Hyper54 and have been trying to figure out what to expect from it as I work through the build process. I had already decided to omit any decals, go simple on paint, and leave the fins bare, but this makes me think I should use high-heat primer and paint. And now I'm...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Right on, thanks. I use Andrew's Mobius camera shrouds and was looking at that exact rail guide. I see the .ork file on the site but no Rocksim version, so I'm rolling my own. Once I get done weighing and measuring everything, I'll post pics as I start the build. A couple more questions: 1)...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Wow, that was fast! My Hyper54 showed up in the mail today! I did a quick dry-fit and everything looks great. I do have a few questions, though, if you don't mind. 1) I've never work with canvas phenolic before. Do you have any special tips about finishing, or should I just treat it like...

    MAC Performance HYPER 54 M/D

Yep, had to have one, just ordered through the website. What kind of ejection charge setup did you use at that altitude?
