L3 build - Wildman Ultimate Darkstar

I'll add more pics and organization as I go. Here's a link to the basic information file. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1T7NLmEyboIeUgveng9yrV8AqFyct7YarYccKQoEnlNs/edit?usp=sharing But this happened and I thought you guys might have more ideas... I put the initial epoxy on the...

    Thrust plates?

I'm evilly plotting to do an L3 certification flight next summer. The kit is on the way, Wildman Ultimate Darkstar. I'll do a build thread on it once I get more parts so there's something to show. For now I have a question. I like the look of the thrust plates that are out there. While I don't...

Simple altimeter sled design... In progress

I'm working on a simple design to be 3D printed. I just thought I would share it here to get comments and in case other people find it useful. The hole pattern is a placeholder for now, it should fit an MAWD. The sled is designed to fit in a 3 inch rocket with 1/4 inch all-thread. I'm planning...

    DIY Composite tubes?

I've been looking around for some info and found a few tidbits, but didn't see a thread dedicated to the art of composite tube making. I was wondering if some of the pros would be willing to share some info. I'd love to start making some small diameter tubes, say 38mm and under. I've had some...

    Aerotech RC case

Anyone have one collecting dust? I'm most interested in the 24mm, but the 32mm would be nice as well.

    HPR Staged kits?

I'm wanting to do a staged HPR build. I'm not opposed to scratch building, but I was wondering if there are kits out there that people like and recommend. Always nice to know what the options are. I'm thinking 38mm, maybe with a 54mm booster. Mostly because I already have the hardware I would...

    Big Daddy... 38mm.

I love my 29mm version, so I figured, why not 38mm? The Big Daddy is also the kit I like to experiment on, so this will be my first fiberglass experiment. I'm planning to glass the tube and tip-to-tip the fins. I'll be using Aeropoxy for the build, and I was thinking of using some 3oz...

Aeropoxy... How do you dispense it?

It's in what looks like paint cans. I was wondering how you get the stuff out to mix it without a big mess. I was thinking about getting some of the squeeze bottles hobby epoxy comes in and trying to load it those. But I'm all for better ideas. :)

    Cellular reception at lauch sites?

I know we have reception at ours. I was wondering if others do as well? I have tossed around building a cell based GPS tracker, but I'm not sure how useful it would be to others. It would have to be GSM based, so AT&T and TMobile are the only nationwide ones I can think of off the top of my...

    Tapped forward closure shockcord mounting?

I built a scratch rocket that used Skyripper hybrid motors. I used the tapped closure and an eyebolt to secure the lower recovery harness. The rocket flew great but experienced an airframe failure during recovery sometime. The tube seems to have split along the spirals right at the eyebolt...

Attaching to a balsa nose cone.

I got one for a scratch build but it occurred to me that I've never used one. :) I bought a screw eye to attach it to the rest of the recovery gear. I was just going to drill a pilot hole and screw it in. Maybe with a little epoxy. Anything to watch out for? A better way? :)

    Source for 2" couplers?

I have some tubes that I would like to build a rocket with that is 2" ID. I have always used standard parts, so I could just buy the right sizes. I know BMS can make me CRs and a nose cone, but does anyone have a source for couplers for this size tube?

Just got a box from SRS...

38mm set and 6 loads. Unfortunately, no ignitors. Anyone have recommendations for ignitors? I can get AT Firstfires and some homemade stuff at launches, but I was thinking it might be nice to build the motor before going out to a January launch. Fingers get cold fast trying to build a motor...

    Is Skyripper still around?

I tried emailing directly, but it bounced with a mailbox full error. I like the prices and looks of the system, but I don't want to buy hardware I can't get loads for in the future. The website hasn't been updated in a long time as well, thus the confusion.

I am designing an altimeter.... just for fun.

No, I don't want to compete with the various manufacturers. I'm just curious what options people think I should consider including in my design. I'm thinking the first revision will be a logging unit and not much else. I plan to include a pressure sensor, high-G accelerometer, and a magnetic...
