    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

Hey Neil, been watching your build. Hard part coming up over there. You know, paint and decals Feeling inspired after an awful flight with the mini GAR-1 (AIM-4) I was inspired to work on this one a bit more today. I decided to make the fillets with CWF. I laid out some tape boundaries and...

    GAR 1 Quick Build

I finished her last week and she had her first launch on Saturday. Didn't go quite as planned tumbling the whole time. I think even a 5mph wind was too much for those big fins and her light weight. No damage and it will be back another day. I flew my other 3 mini's (Black Brant Vc...

    Fin Grain Orientation

I did think about papering balsa. I have done so in many builds. For this build I decided to go with some very light ply that I had. Well actually, the build I started is not a AIM-4D. It is an AIM-4G which has slightly different fins...

    Hobby Lobby Clearance

I searched forst, then checked in the low and mid powered forums and didn't see it. I had a vertigo "episode" last week and I'm still a little dizzy. Maybe that's why I missed it. This is a first for me but I can tell you it's a very weird feeling. -Bob

    Hobby Lobby Clearance

Hobby Lobby is having a clearance sale on some of the rockets, motors and accesories. I've been seeing it discussed on some Facebook groups so I swung by or local HL today. I purchased the only High Flyer XL kit that was on the shelf and the 2 packages of A3-4T motors that were on the shelf...

Preferred masking film for vinyl cutter?

I'm using the oracal. I find the cricut masking is too sticky -Bob

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

I'm back for just a bit. I haven't been feeling too well and I am also working on taking apart a leaking 265 gallon aquarium so I can properly reseal it. I've been doing a lot of research on that. I almost forgot that I needed to address the rear of the fin flanges. They have sort of a...

Gap between fin and body tube for through fin. Need to file down or build up with epoxy?

I would sand the root cord as well. The glue that you use on the root cord/motor tube is going to make that gap at the body tube increase, especially if you use a thicker glue like epoxy -Bob

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

Today I worked on the fin flanges. I had to reference off photos mainly because they are much different than the flanges on the AIM-4D. I think I managed to catch the essence of them. It took much longer than I expected it too. They are tacked in place with CA followed by a bead of Elmer's...

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

I had what I feel was a really productive day. I prepped the last two fins and I've got to tell ya... Either that ply was a lot harder than the first two fins or I need some new sandpaper. :) The four fins are on. I made the fin hinges and glued them on. It was looking so much like a...

Let's Talk About Painting the LOC 4' Goblin

When I read your first post it sounded like the rocket is already built? I only ask because it is easier to fill spirals and sand the fins before everything is glued together. If it is already built it can still be done and won't be so bad on a larger airframe like you have. I fill spirals...

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

I thought I remembered that you have a Falcon. I mentioned that I have designed several. I have my GAR 1 build going on over in "Low Power" and this build going on here. I did design another, the middle child :) Not sure if it will be next but it'll be a nice way to complete the series of...

    GAR 1 Quick Build

I've been bust on my Super Falcon build over in the "Scale" forum but little guy has gotten some love too. I have all the paint work done now. It was looking a little blah so I decided to try my hand at adding some panel lines. I think it makes it look a lot better. I just wish my line were...

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

If the barrels are sticking out from the body tube I'd be more comfortable without having the holes in the well nuts. Never thought about using 6-32 hardware. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip. I do like getting a good fillet of glue around both sides of the centering rings...

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

Hey Frank, I've used weld nuts before but I have yet to find any in the 8-32 size that have the holes drilled in the flanges for the glue to grab. I find it a bit of a pain to drill them myself. I glued them with the barrel inside the body tube and I worry the regular base style might pop...

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

The blind nuts came in today so I got busy but first a little comparison. Both of these are 8-32 blind nuts. Dubro brand on the left and the nuts from Amazon on the right. I epoxied them in to the plywood mounts and installed the upper into the combination coupler/laundry shelf/ recovery...

    Aim-4 G Super Falcon Build

I ordered the blind nuts and they are supposed to arrive tomorrow. In the meanwhile I got all the plywood fins cut out. I did not have a piece of ply large enough to cut all four fins out of so they came from two different pieces. Two from one, two from the other. Two fins from one piece of...

    GAR 1 Quick Build

The build continues with the nose cone. OR shows I need .6 ounce of weight in the nose. I have some BBs that I bought just for this so I got them out and measured that 4 of them weigh .5 ounce so I figured the epoxy will weigh some too. First thing was to install some pins to keep the...

    GAR 1 Quick Build

I had a little primer touch up from where I added the launch lug but I got that done and she is all white now. Well expect the nose cone. Started my other build thread over in the scale forum. If you like Falcon missiles check it out. -Bob
