    Photographing into the sun

    That's a good question, @sperocket.

    Photographing into the sun

Thank you, Chuck (@cwbullet). This is a great reference.

    Photographing into the sun

Thank you, @OverTheTop, for your informative response. That's a reassuring point. Instructive article. Thanks for the reference.

    Photographing into the sun

Thank you, @bjphoenix, for your reply. Then, if I may, I would please like to press the issue with you and anyone else who wishes to jump in. How would one know if the camera did get damaged. How does one measure that? If damage, did occur, it wouldn't be a matter of all or nothing, would it?

    Photographing into the sun

Hi TRF colleagues, I have a question, please, on using my iPhone 15 Pro Max to photograph into the sun. I am just trying to be artistic (without much success). In particular I am trying to experiment with lighting. The normal rule is to have the sun behind the photographer, but now I want to...

Seeking advice on starting-state wind conditions using OpenRocket and RockSim

Hi @311stylie, Thank you for your response. I know about Windy, and it is indeed a good app, as you say. I just wanted to know about wind conditions that would be useful for more or less average situations. That way, I could set RockSim and OpenRocket for such conditions and be fairly...

Seeking advice on starting-state wind conditions using OpenRocket and RockSim

Hi TRF colleagues, This summer I intend to fly my new LOC/Precision Warlock and possibly my old LOC/Precision Minie-Magg at Potter NY with URRG. I would like to enter reasonable starting-state wind conditions for simulating rocket launches using OpenRocket and RockSim. For OpenRocket: What do...

    Rocksim activation problems

Hi TRF colleagues, Just a few days ago I purchased and installed RockSim 11. Then I discovered that I was also having activation problems. I was getting the same message shown in Post #8 above. I contacted Apogee Components about the matter, they did something, and asked me to try it again...

Forget reusability — Concentrate on colonizing Luna

Hi TRF colleagues, Now that on its third attempt SpaceX Starship failed again to achieve all its mission objectives, we should refocus on the central and driving goal. That goal — the ultimate objective — is colonizing Luna. The United States is funding SpaceX to construct unnecessarily complex...

When is the Starship orbital launch?

No problem, @Lord Rory Gin. Thank you for your input.

When is the Starship orbital launch?

Right, I will be watching YouTube. I thought that perhaps @Lord Rory Gin was referring to some particular channel. Thanks for your response, @NTP2.

When is the Starship orbital launch?

Hi everyone, When @Lord Rory Gin says that we can watch the live webcast "here", could someone please tell me where that is. Thank you. Stanley

Extending the body-tube length of a LOC Warlock

Hi @neil_w, That reference was extraordinarily helpful. The following statement from that reference enhanced my understanding of rocket design in OpenRocket: "The correct move when overriding a stage is usually to check Override for all subcomponents for the mass or CG or CD override ..."...

Extending the body-tube length of a LOC Warlock

I don't see any anomalies. None of the issues mentioned in the article that you just cited show up. Moreover, the plot looks just like the one you showed in Post #26. I believe that this shows a successful flight.

Extending the body-tube length of a LOC Warlock

Hi @neil_w and everyone else, OK. So then I have these two questions, please: First, what would the plot of a failed flight look like? Second, I have attached the plot of a simulation flight that I made with a LOC Warlock using a J430-10. Does this indicate a successful flight? Thank you...

Extending the body-tube length of a LOC Warlock

Here are the two files, one with and one without the cone at the aft end of the rocket. Understand, please, that the one with the cone is exactly the same file that came with OpenRocket version 23.09. I have not modified it at all. The other file is the same design except that I deleted the...

Extending the body-tube length of a LOC Warlock

Hi @neil_w and anyone else, I am following up on the issue of the Base Drag CP Correction. I went into the Examples file in OpenRocket, and I loaded the example entitled "Base drag hack (short-wide)" and used all three motors indicated — C11-3, D11-3, and E12-4. I kept the massless cone in...

Extending the body-tube length of a LOC Warlock

Hi @QFactor, You are surely correct on that. I follow sport rocketry closely by reading and participating in The Rocketry Forum, going to vNARCON, and keeping up with events as reported in the NAR Electronic Rocketeer. I also frequently watch the RockSim training videos and I try to keep up...
