Total eclipse coming, 8 April 2024!

They had a small event at BTV, was a really good time. Still can’t get over the 360* “sunset”, it’s a totally surreal feeling.

Total eclipse coming, 8 April 2024!

We’re staying home and watching from the porch. I’ve seen estimates between 100-200k people coming to VT for the eclipse. Not sure how many will actually show, but I’m pretty sure traffic is going to be insane. Clear skies forecasted here for now though, so hopefully that holds up and we get a...

What do you do (or did) for a living?

Worked at a hobby shop/computer store in HS. After HS (and a short stint in college) I enlisted and worked B-2 Avionics in the AF. On the side I worked at a rapid prototyping company in KC while stationed at Whiteman. Got out and started with a company making guitar effects pedals. After that I...

StarTrek has always been “woke”. I wasn’t there but I’m sure a handful of people got real upset when Kirk kissed Uhura back in the day too lol.

    ICEs and EVs

A breakthrough would be nice, but I’ve heard we’re seeing an increase of 3-5% in energy density yearly thrown around at work by our battery team. It’s a slow improvement, but it’s an improvement. There’s a lot more players in the battery area and a lot more money being thrown at research. Tech...

What’s your favorite aviation museum besides the “big ones”?

https://oldrhinebeck.org/ Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a really cool place. They have frequent air shows and offer rides.

    ICEs and EVs

Actually, they now issue you an EV along with a pint of maple syrup upon entry to the state. Things are pretty dire up here.

    ICEs and EVs

Yeah, it’s a basic misunderstanding of the power capability of a system and the average power draw. For what it’s worth, we just swapped EPUs in the aircraft we’re working on. The new motor package is more powerful than the old setup, but also more efficient. We have more power available, but...

    online April fools jokes?

JHS always goes hard for April Fools. I worked there for a little while when I lived in KC and they started the planning months in advance 😅.

Large electric motors, batteries and vehicles

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_ID.2all Yeah, I think it's tucked up in the backside of the rear window. I've seen a few manufactures do this, and there's a break in the rear of the window on the ID. 2all. I've seen a few references to it being a "5-door" too! It doesn't seem like it's...

Large electric motors, batteries and vehicles

If you look closely it seems like there's a rear door. The B-pillar feels a little too far forward to be a 2-door. No handle visible though, not sure if it's in the back corner of the rear window or on a button or something silly. Maybe they forgot to render it. :)
