Coating inside of body tubes with ______ (?)

I have finished the inside of piston tubes with epoxy, but unless you are a committed contest flyer, it is just plain nuts.

Forget reusability — Concentrate on colonizing Luna

Hmm, the Brits had a fondness for beaver pelts. Lunar rocks are quite valuable now, but the market is very shallow. I think the pay off will be in science and discovery, not marketable treasure.

    Thrustcurve Open Thread

You could enter the motor date code, and make sure the correct motor data is loaded for that particular motor.

    Estes Solar Launch Controller Lives

I had one of those when it was new stock. I did not like it much, but I squeezed in 5 AA Ni-Cads and used 18 gauge wire, and that was good enough.

    Rocket exhaust dynamics question

My guess would be that the motor produces a fuel rich exhaust. As the exhaust stream slows down it allows mixing with the atmospheric air and the additional oxygen permits some external combustion.

smallest gps that can run off of a small watch battery?? any exist??

I remember when Collins Radio came around with a GPS receiver in a van, and not quite enough satellites in orbit. They wanted us to start designing missiles with GPS units projected to be two to several cubic feet in volume.

Let's put an end to the "Base Drag Hack"

I think what you are describing might be BDE, Big Dawg Effect? I don't think "yeet" has anything to do with aerodynamic effect. I mean, if you rotate 90 degrees would it be zeet, or even xeet?

Let's put an end to the "Base Drag Hack"

I thought my compact word choice might be too objectionable. So instead of myth, lets just say folk lore explanation. In place of ignorant, lets say not formally educated in a fully accredited aerospace engineering curriculum. And yes, even well intentioned and educated people can disagree...

Let's put an end to the "Base Drag Hack"

Apart from the hack, I hope to see more practical CFD from Buckeye. I am willing to concede that the hack has some utility. There may even be a stability effect from asymmetric base flow. I suspect the the pi and/or d in the hack should actually be an input variable, and come from a curve fit...

    Light Fuse, Get Away...

So clearly, you need to use an electrical starter with 20-30 feet of cord. ;)

Let's put an end to the "Base Drag Hack"

Then "we" need to stop implying that base drag is a stabilizing force.

Let's put an end to the "Base Drag Hack"

If any violation of the Baroman assumptions is detected, the simulation should just fall over and play dead. ;)

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

I am disappointed in the new catalog. With their new MSRP policy, they should have put the prices along side the items.

    TV Show Theme Songs

Not a song, but the best or most motivating music known to man was the original music intros to Doctor Who, and Monday Night Football.

On the other foot, The car from your past you miss the least!

That's not right. The understanding that I had with my father was that if I paid for four years of college, he would buy me a car for graduation. I accepted that deal. I graduated in 1978, a time of high inflation and gas shortages. Maybe I could have stuck the old man for an expensive...

On the other foot, The car from your past you miss the least!

Our first NAR section president had a Rambler station wagon. It was great for lugging rocketeers and club equipment around, but I never wanted to ride in it any farther than I could call to get ride home.

Still dead, except in my head of course.

Let's put an end to the "Base Drag Hack"

Hey, it is great to read that somebody is doing research... I wanted to respond to the Munk Moment post, but I made the mistake of googling it. First, all I got was references to my favorite TV detective. Then I tried something like Munk Moment in fluid dynamics and i got references to pipe...

Let's put an end to the "Base Drag Hack"

Please prove that assertion. (For stubby rockets, not saucers and plates.)

    F100 composite?

    AT had a very nice 24mm F101.
