It's not just the illiteracy, it's the innumeracy!

Clearly 100 watermelons cost $108 if you can only buy in 12 packs.

Found Archetype / Prarie Twister Cable Cutters

I bought an Archetype dual set of cutters with extra stuff from the Prairie Twister site on March 12. Upon ordering I got an email confirmation. 8 days later I got an email notice it had shipped. I had the hardware a few days later. Everything looks perfect. I'm happy with the service and...

Winged and forward winged designs unstable for rockets?

Tungsten is more dense than depleted uranium and it is easily available from Amazon as fishing weights, pinewood derby car weights, and TIG welding electrodes.

Winged and forward winged designs unstable for rockets?

Ken This is a hobby. If you're having fun then you're doing the right thing. You're also advancing rocketry in an area and sharing what you learn. Thanks. Sorry for your job loss. It's difficult, but it's also an opportunity. kb

    This is Effed Up

Sorry. I wasn't trying to choose anything vulgar or offend. I was just trying to name each high performance rocket starting with the impulse letter around which it was designed: Effed Up Gee Willikers Eyelash Someday maybe Teed Off? Eff isn't an easy letter. I have to fess up that I once...

Winged and forward winged designs unstable for rockets?

I think you have invented something cool and useful, but it is not a stabilization system. It is a way to allow the forward fins to not contribute as much to the Cp because they pivot to allow air to flow around them. Lets think about forces. You can break down the forces on a rocket into...

Gus Use the 21 second motor delay: F10-21 ;). As stated above: I don't think it is possible for motor delay to be used with any flight that trying to push altitude limits. You have to use electronic deployment because no motor manufacturer is going to make a suitable delay. Virtually no...

    Minimum Diameter 54mm - Let's see yours.

I designed "Pure Impulse" to fly shorter long-burn 54 mm motors.. It is all self-made thin walled s-glass. In 2020 it flew to 14,291' with an I-65W as configured below: The tailcone was an inner tube made from JB-weld bonding fiberglass, Styrofoam, and an outer covering of fiberglass...

Changing out wheels/tires on an inexpensive utility trailer

I had the three tires mentioned above mounted and installed on the trailer. I'm shocked that three tires, load class E, all mounted could be obtained for $156 total. I asked if they had any 12" spinners, but they don't come that small. Brothers/Blackrock dust would probably screw them up...

Changing out wheels/tires on an inexpensive utility trailer

Maybe you can learn from my experiences: I have owned a 4x8 Harbor Freight utility trailer for at least 15 years. It has 12" rims and the tires say Load Star, which I assume is Kenda. They are size 5.30-12 load class C which I recently learned is crummy. They are bias play tires. The...

How to get a motor certified

Please do consider working with a manufacturer to make something like this commercially available. IMHO the TRA I record is low compared to other classes due to motor options. There is a need for a longer burning full I. 38 mm and shorter might fly higher and be easier to produce. I haven’t...

What nose weight material near antenna?

I once glued in gravel to add nose weight to a rocket that was single use. I went with gravel instead of lead because I didn't want to throw lead in the trash or chisel it out of the nose cone after the flight. It was single use because, out of respect for all rockets, I decided to launch the...

Gyros, Tilt, and Quaternions are not your friend

I have been reading up on quaternions lately because I might have something to code up. I have found a number of articles on the web. One that is pertinent to this discussion is sensors-15-19302.pdf entitled "Keeping a Good Attitude: A Quaternion-Based Orientation Filter for IMUs and MARGs"...

    Low viscosity epoxy

I know you have used Aeropoxy and John Coker recommended it above. Let me add a little experience about the Aeropoxy PH3363 super low viscosity hardener added to PR2032 resin. This hardener was specifically developed to be low viscosity. The hardener seems runnier than water when it comes out...

    AltusMetrum Telemetrum flight monitor issue

The problems with my TeleMetrum V2.0 were resolved. The hardware and firmware were both fine. It was operator (me) error. At some point I must have deselected this setting: Apparently this disables communication in flight mode but not in idle mode. Thanks to Keith for troubleshooting.

    Water recovery

Why not just put the altimeter in a ziploc? The bag will expand and contract, but the baro sensor should work fine. It doesn't need to sample the actual air at altitude, just be surrounded by air of the same pressure. Build the electronics bay as usual. Make sure the ziplock is not...

    AltusMetrum Telemetrum flight monitor issue

Those symptoms sound just like the symptoms I had recently with a TeleMetrum V2.0. It would connect in idle mode but not flight mode. I switched to other TeleMetrums that worked fine in both modes, both V2.0 and 3.0. The problematic unit was a relatively new: few flights and never wrecked...

Charge Test Earlier I mentioned that the original version of this rocket perished with a charge test that was larger than is desirable. I started testing this one more conservatively. I started with 0.15 cc = gram of 4f bp in the fingertip of a glove. I used one nylon #2-56 screw to hold on...
