older altimeters still good? How old is too old?

Some of the older electronics have low sample rates for lift off detection so know what you will use them for. The altacc 2C fixed the low sample rates I don't know if the firmware for the 2A had a fix, originally it was at 10hz. I use older electronics on occasion and if I am unsure of the...

Downward facing camera at center of motor cluster?

I did this a while ago, not between motors but low on the side looking down. The liftoff smoke immediately collected on the lens and then only shaded images were captured. Look at the bottom of any rocket it is full of smoke particles, that is going to be on the lens too. dB

    Rocket launch regulations

That is not uncommon for restrictions. City of Calgary has the same type of rule but the Calgary club has worked out an authorized usage on one of the city soccer fields for some regular model launches. It took a while and they have to rent the space as would other groups but they have made it...

    Rocket launch regulations

There not much for Model or Low Power rocketry from a federal perspective, what you will find is waay more rules from your civic, local government. Some guidelines to live by are here: https://canadianrocketry.org/en/regulations/model-rocketry Best thing to do is find out what bylaws are...

    Switch Testing

The motor vibration spec derived from the raw motor test data would be a good thing. I have this chart from years ago when the rocket electronics industry was not taking into consideration motor "vibration", particularly on hybrids vs the low sample rates the electronics provided at the time...

The Kronos Team has a new project!

Hey All A while back the Kronos Pente team, launched a 1:20 scale of the Saturn 5 for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and thought wow that was 3 years ago, its time to do another project! This time we are doing a 1:17 scale of a much more current rocket from SLS and also destined for...

eggStation - an eggTimer ground station software build thread.

I edited that after I posted too. It was the straightest flight of the day! winds stopped just in time.

eggStation - an eggTimer ground station software build thread.

The Calgary Rocketry launch yesterday went quite well and I was able to launch the "electronics test" rocket and I got the KML from it but with using the ET Quasar there was no telemetry data gathered or shown because of the different stream protocol. but the EggSation collected the MKL data...

    Canadian Shipping Lipo Battery

Hi Bruce I am lucky I live in a urban area so lithium deliveries are not an issue but come with boxes indicating batteries inside, even if they are part of a device.... Lithium batteries are classed as dangerous goods...

eggStation - an eggTimer ground station software build thread.

Hey All, Been playing with the eggStation app. Charles was a big help getting my end up and running so there was a bit of process to get it going, or maybe it was me.... Looks like a very capable and useful program. I like the ability to see all the information in one spot. I was using my...

Servo mode for the Eggtimer Proton and Quasar

Thanks Cris, That is what we thought, at least you have servo ability! the servo becomes an actuator without the controls so I think we that is where we will focus. David

Servo mode for the Eggtimer Proton and Quasar

Hey All Our Kronos team has a project where we are detaching booster pods after burnout. We have a couple methods we are testing but the latest is using the servo outputs from the Proton, unfortunately in the document is says: So this was bad news for us but the real question, the Quasar does...

    Long Range GPS Tracking

Developing you own is going to be a bit of an undertaking but it is part of rocketry to build things! So if you enjoy electronics go for it. It may not be a quick solution, lots of time testing and coding. If you do, I highly suggest to use common protocols such as APRS (1200 baud) (format not...

    EggTimer Build Series

Everyone has a technique that works for them. Flux has made the work for the folks I help much easier and I use it on all boards I do. My bigger boards are done with paste and that has a wealth of flux in it as well. As mentioned temperature is very important for soldering and having a known...

    EggTimer Build Series

Great thread One of the things I show the local club building the Eggtimer products is to clean the boards with alcohol (99%) first, let dry and also use a flux. Yes the solder comes with flux but for newbies doing the build the flux allows even better solder joints and finish. One advantage...

    3D Printing EggTimer Receiver box

Finished building most of the Back Friday sale order then had to build a field box for the rev B5 receiver along with GPS and Voice. Bluetooth can be there to but for the moment just double side tape it to the base. There is an SCAD file for modifications, I warn you though, the code needs...

    The Eggtimer Quasar - A WiFi-enabled GPS/Altimeter

I finally figured out what you meant here, I'm slow. Yes compatible in two forms, it is a low power transmitter and a 90 degree orientation from TX antenna and the GPS receive (adds a few dB isolation). My comments where around student built devices using, for example, an RFD900 (1 watt...
