Rocket Drag Racing - Picture/Video/Comment Thread

This was a Dark Matter drag race we had at LUNAR in Northern California a couple of years ago. The black and purple rocket, 5 Finger Death Punch, is mine. The loud person in the video is my friend Olga.

Madcow DD Screech - Thinking about buying one

From what I understand, you need a carbide blade, and they're very expensive.

Madcow DD Screech - Thinking about buying one

That's what I'd do. I ruined a bandsaw blade cutting G10 fins once.

Homemade Fin Alignment Guide Version 2

The VP of one of our clubs is almost always LCO. The only one he ever launches is his pinata rocket, filled with candy for the kids. When I do launch, it's mid or high power. I haven't launched low power in years.

Homemade Fin Alignment Guide Version 2

I'm not very active anymore, although I attend launches when the weather cooperates.

Homemade Fin Alignment Guide Version 2

Wow, it's been a few years since I started this thread. I'm glad it's still inspiring. I have built literally dozens of rockets with this jig. Never had a problem.

What were your first rockets and launch equipment?

Wow, I had totally forgotten about this thread. I started it over 9 years ago. I said the biggest motor I had launched at the time was a G, but I have since launched up to J and am Level 2. Never thought I'd go this far! This is Bomber Betty on a J420 Redline.

    38mm forward cap

You guys that use the caps, do you put a pinch of dog barf on top of the BP to keep it in place?

    38mm forward cap

Yeah, when I do use the adhesive discs, I clean the top of the well first with an alcohol pad, and then put masking tape over it.

    38mm forward cap

Does anybody use the forward cap that comes with AT reloads for the recovery well? I've never used one, they fit very tightly. I've always used masking tape.

    Gmail problem

I have the same problem, whether I'm on WiFi or not. I never have a problem sharing photos in text messages, only when I try to email photos to myself.

    Gmail problem

About half the time when I try to send photos with Gmail on my Samsung (Android), they just sit in the outbox and never send. The other half of the time they go right through. For instance, tonight I sent four Gmail messages with four photos attached to each. The first one went right through...

    Free rocket box

Unfortunately, if I do go to a launch this Saturday, it will be SARG. But I'll hang onto the box for you. Hopefully there will be a January Snow Ranch launch.

    Free rocket box

Anybody want a free wooden rocket box? I haven't used it in several years. It's in pretty good shape, albeit dirty. There are a few rockets in it, which go with the box. The dimensions are approximately 42"L x 17"H x 14"W. You must pick it up at a LUNAR Snow Ranch or SARG Gibson Ranch launch...

OpenRocket: packaged installers for Windows and Mac to solve all your Java problems

It's there now. I tried it from my new PC at home, but the drop box looked empty. I was able to download it from my PC at work.

    Slo-Mo Rocksim file

Is there a way to open this file in Open Rocket so that it shows the perpendicular fins? OR just ignores them.

    I like trains and rockets

I recently picked up some Z scale stuff. 1:220 scale. The detail is amazing. Photos, even when there's something for size reference, don't give you the real feel for how small it really is. Trying to put those tiny cars on the track with my sausage fingers does, though!

    I like trains and rockets

It wasn't the first one, but it set a speed record of 29 mph in 1829. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_railway_history
