    The Eggtimer EZ-DD Rocket/Altimeter, a Complete Dual-Deploy Package for $100

Now someone’s got to come up with a great paint scheme. As Stickershock23 says, “never fly naked.” Chris Michielssen did a build here with red NC, white BT and blue fins, with silver stars on the NC and BT. I’m thinking maybe black or dark yellow NC with a leopard spot wrap to hide all the holes...

Black Aero Eggtimer Pro Case 3.0 problems PLEASE HELP!

I used the iCrimp SN-28B crimpers for my pins. I used a pair of very fine jeweler’s needlenose forceps to grasp the wire just at the base of the crimped pin to push the pins until they clicked in. If you have wire with silicone insulation, it’s like pushing wet spaghetti. One pin just absolutely...

    Treating soft/punky balsa

I tried the Minwax wood hardener on balsa maybe fifteen years ago with much the same results. It did eventually get hard, but it took MONTHs, which I thought was ridiculous. I think a catalyzing product like some of the penetrating wood hardener epoxies or even cyanoacrylate would work better. I...

Black Aero V3 Pro & Standard Case

I tightened one of the flathead case screws a little too tight and it cracked the attachment for the nut. I removed the hardware and the nut, clamped the pad to reapproximate the broken bits and wicked in some thin CA. I used a bit of polyethylene yogurt carton lid under the clamp to keep the...

    The Eggtimer EZ-DD Rocket/Altimeter, a Complete Dual-Deploy Package for $100

My EZ-DD kit arrived yesterday. This kit is neat and robust. I had my electronics workbench already set up for another project so I knocked out the altimeter first. It’s a very simple build with all through-hole components except the voltage regulator, so I got a chance to use my reflow blower...

Black Aero V3 Pro & Standard Case

Well, where there's will, there's a way. After all , this is a PRO case, right? I was just too cheap to toss the battery that was a hair too big, so I decided to mod the case. I used my Dremel to shave off about 4.25mm of the bottom buttress where one would otherwise attach a wrist loop. I also...

Black Aero V3 Pro & Standard Case

HobbyKing’s customer service was meh. They gave me the runaround on the dimensions, stating that they were just a suggestion and chemical composition would cause variability in the batteries between different production runs. They did offer to let me return the battery for a refund. But with...

Black Aero V3 Pro & Standard Case

Thanks! I found these 1800mAh batteries in the right size https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085G1R7MV/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1UG33C8FHL6KG&psc=1. Also slightly bigger capacity at 2200mAh in the same physical size, if that can be believed...

Black Aero V3 Pro & Standard Case

I think the battery has changed. Although the battery shown on the HobbyKing website is identical to the picture you have, the label on the battery I got is slightly different. It's still a 2000mAh battery but the discharge rate on mine is shown as "20-40C." As you can see from the pic my...

Black Aero V3 Pro & Standard Case

I just bought this battery from Hobby King based on this recommendation. The battery does not fit if you have the Eggtimer voice module installed. That module limits the battery length to 85mm with a really tight fit. The battery specs on the HobbyKing website are incorrect. The site says 8 x...

Defective rod on new launch pad

I buy my launch rods from Zoro. 304 stainless steel (I think), six ft length, very reasonable price, $5.00 shipping. So far, all of mine have been straight. I cut them down to size as needed. A 1/8” rod any longer than about four feet gets pretty whippy. I rub them down with a 250-400 grit...

    Eggtimer & Lipo Batteries

OK, so where does one get the JST SYP male and female housings that are either genuine JST or at least high quality Chinese knockoffs?

Need a covering for my particle board workbench

I made several workbenches with a two-layer 3/4” MDF top, glued and screwed with screw heads countersunk just slightly. I placed a 1/8” tempered Masonite sheet (the really dark brown stuff) on top (smooth both sides) with double-sided tape on one table at the edges and glued with solvent-based...

    ~1/100TH Scale Index

I note that this 1/100 scale Redstone uses a BT-19 body tube, slightly smaller diameter than a BT-20. The Boyce 1/100 scale Saturn 1-B calls for the builder to provide a bunch of BT-19 tubes for the fuel tanks. This would make sense, as the Saturn 1-B was basically just a bunch of clustered...

Attic ladders, advice and recommendations needed please

I have a Werner aluminum ladder. Very similar to the Louisville ladder, though I think the Louisville rating goes up to 350 pounds. I have been very satisfied with mine. Four comments: 1) make sure whatever ladder you get has a handrail on one side, near the top. You will use this a lot. 2) Mine...

Lowest cost Nomex Chute Protectors! If you find a better price from a competitor, we'll beat it!

Valkyrie’s chute protectors are well made and laser cut. The edges are very clean but not bound or serged. I haven’t had a chance to launch them yet, so i don’t know how those edges will hold up in the field. The cloth is pretty heavy duty and should provide very good burn-through protection...

Saturn 1B $44.99 eBay. Great Price

Ordered on Saturday, tracking number provided today, eBay says arrival between 2/29 and 3/5. I’m west coast so I suspect 3/5 more likely. Boy, I wish for the old days of eBay before sales tax, though. Same for Amazon. Those were the days, my friend…

    Honest John Project

Training a tree to grow on a trellis or other support is called espalier. An espadrille is a casual shoe with a rope sole. But then again, my spellchecker once rewrote “Yosemite” to “Glasnost.” So “espadrille” is actually a pretty good guess.
