    Formula 98

Great, will do! Also I’ll try and remember to take some pics to post. I’ll need to clear the wasps that made a home in my drill press haha. Should be super fun!

    Formula 98

Sounds good, I suppose my question was more about how to ensure I get the spacing perfect for the sled I’m using. I need to find my calipers and measure center to center lol Noted on the nose cone. I have 25’ harnesses and often do the z fold. How many 2-56 shear pins were you using? I can...

    Formula 98

Ah this makes completely sense. I was thinking that it didn’t have a “stuffy coupler” inside so it didn’t have the ledge but it’s actually the stepped bulkhead I was missing. Makes much more sense! Related note - what’s the best way to ensure you drill evenly for allthread hole spacing? Or...

    Formula 98

So I just pulled out my formula 98 from 2016 to get ready to build. I guess I’m fiberglass rocket dumb but I have 2 av bay bulkheads which don’t have holes for all thread in them like I’m used to with LOC but I guess it’s so I can choose my own spacing? Also I have 3 smaller bulkheads and I...

Can’t ask for a better cert, congrats!

    L1 Flight Getting Closer!

75 mph is 110 ft/sec, which is extremely high and will result in a bad zipper. You need that to be as close as possible to 0. Try it with a 6, 8 and 10 second delay and see what you get. How have you picked the delay times for smaller rockets flown?

    L1 Flight Getting Closer!

Ah yes, the tape shock cord loops is another good technique I used. I was quite concerned about zipper too I guess! Haha Good luck and I’m sure it will be fine and if not the worst case is build another rocket and fly again!

    L1 Flight Getting Closer!

They shouldn't be, but on cardboard it's never a bad idea to harden the end with a bit of thin CA or use the tennis ball method (I used it back 14 years ago and again 6 years ago). I haven't seen it used much recently, but it works if you have the body tube size!

    I’m baaaaack

Howdy folks, Been a few years since I’ve really flown much but I’m getting excited about it again so I’m gonna be actually building my Formula 98 and dusting off the fleet.

    where the Houston members at???

I'm a Tripoli Houston member, I try and make it out to each launch if at all possible. The Facebook group is active and the Yahoo group is fairly - make sure you join both of those. See you in March?

    .005 soft brass shim

99% sure my pin cutter on my LOC 4” is .005 from Hobby Lobby and it cuts great. I epoxied it on the nose cone though. Anything is better than relying on the cardboard

    Wildman Sandhawk L2 DD build.

I can promise a J350 would not make that kit blink. I have seen 1/16 Nike smoke shaped plywood fins launched on J285s just fine. A bit of flutter is not the same as catastrophic flutter. Quite a drastic change from 3.06 to 1.39, it should still be stable but beyond that it sounds like Eric...

    Wildman Sandhawk L2 DD build.

What did that do to the stability? I know it's a long rocket so probably not too much, but I'm curious. You seem especially concerned with fin flutter, have you had any rocket re-kit itself from it?
