Horizontal Spin Recovery - with Magnus Effect?

Your high level of quality/workmanship is really impressive.

Has anyone successfully completed and flown the NCR F117?

Molds would have to be reworked/remade? Was there something faulty with the initial kit runs? Such a tragedy, after all that development time that was devoted to a really awesome and visually impressive project. ☹️

Has anyone successfully completed and flown the NCR F117?

Oh no! Why?! When? Couldn't find mention of it either way on Matt's site.

    Apogee Draco BG

Great build thread, made even more valuable by pointing out the problem areas and your solutions so other builders will be aware of them beforehand and take appropriate action to address them. I'm sure Tim Van Milligan at Apogee would appreciate your feedback so he can make/consider adjustments...

Keen eye. Leftover pod from a Condor that caught a thermal and went permanently AWOL.

    sorry, dup post.

The Jet Freak is fun, simple, and cheap

The Jet Freak is basically a flat plate glider (no airfoil). Simply put, when the motor ejects, the CG shifts so that the front of the glider's wings tilts up (think in terms of a seesaw. When one kid gets off, the heavier end drops down). This creates turbulence, which in turn creates a lower...

The Jet Freak is fun, simple, and cheap

In both my original-sized and upscale versions, I found tail weight was necessary. That said, I think a lot of it is dependent on how dense the balsa for your parts is, whether you use a hollow plastic or balsa NC, etc. It'll make a difference in your overall weight distribution. When...

The Jet Freak is fun, simple, and cheap

You might want to check out the construction notes from my build thread from post #21 above: https://www.rocketryforum.com/threads/1-45x-upscaled-jet-freak.168993/post-2193728 to help make things easier and faster. 1/8” polystyrene foam sheet is no longer available, as the company that sold it...

I believe it ejects its motor, otherwise it's too nose heavy. Mine only works if it dumps that extra weight. Self-adhesive aluminum tape works well (the thicker stuff used for HVAC ducts, not the thin decorative stuff).

    The UAP Project

Thought I'd show how little space there is to attach clips to the igniter because of the boxed "wing". My hands are too big so my wife had to do it, and even she had a really difficult time. Took about 5 minutes of frustration so I know she won't be doing it in the future (don't blame her). To...

    The UAP Project

The engineering on that is impressive. Any specs or diagrams you could send me? Lacking a 3D printer, maybe I could cobble together something close to it in balsa and other odd bits I have lying around.

    The UAP Project

HELP WITH IGNITION SOLUTION Hi All, can any of you more experienced and clever guys advise on a practical ignition solution for this glider? Trying to squeeze fingers through the space between the "fuselage" rods to connect the leads is frustrating and near impossible. Preloading the motor with...

The Jet Freak is fun, simple, and cheap

Great flyer for such a simple design. Here's my original, which got destroyed on its 2nd flight from a CATO: I subsequently built a 1.45X upscale in 1/8” polystyrene foam sheet with two elevon tabs on the wing trailing edges raised about 1/16". It flies even better than the original (probably...

    Starship Glider

Totally unexpected and fascinating that it glided -- and quite well! The aerodynamics behind how it does that would be intriguing.

Error in Estes Gryphon (7280) instructions?

Just got through with my build and was surprised at how small the glider is. It's only got a 6" wingspan. The other surprise was how hefty its weight is (the parts appear to all be 3/32" hard balsa). That "over 45-second flights from 700 feet" displayed on the facecard seems a bit optimistic. I...

Just curious whether you got to finish your Gryphon and fly it yet?
