    Ironic slip and fall

For what it's worth, most floor waxes used in public places are formulated for traction as well as for shine. American store managers know all about getting sued for folks slipping on the floor. So they don't use waxes that make the floor slippery I thought most parking lot & road stripe...

    Mercury Redstone 24mm Upgrade?

I converted mine to 24mm using the stock motor mount parts except for the tube and hook. That way, the fins still clip into the mount as designed. I used a cad program to print out some templates and glued them on the plastic rings. Then I enlarged the holes for the BT-50 motor tube...

    Cluster impulse

Ideally, yes, B24-5 is the correct nomenclature. But that assumes all three motors light simultaneously (and that all three conform reasonably well to the thrust curve). OTOH, if they don't light simultaneously, the curves don't line up perfectly, so the thrust peaks won't line up, so then you...

Irregular heartbeat of the Sun driven by double dynamo

See! With all the V8's we have here in the US, we've produced so many green house emissions, they've spilled over all the way to Mars!! <whisper>The really scary part is that there are way too many here on this planet who would drink that kool-aid without batting an eye!</whisper> Doug .

    Aunt VS Aunt

It's interesting you should note that. On "Sanford and Son", it always struck me as being particularly formal when Lamont would mention "Ahnt Esther", especially for someone in Watts :) But, these are the little things that make the world go round. Doug .

    Aunt VS Aunt

I don't say ain't - I tend to use ant. Still, my hillbilly accent seems to have gotten stronger over the years. I find myself saying cain't instead of can't. Doug .

Tight fitting motors, how do you solve the issue.

Hi, Ron, In my experience, the tight motor tubes are due to exuberant use of wood glue on the centering rings. It shrinks which creates a tight spot in the tube. Many of the motors seem to be bulged in the lower half. I've always thought that was due to ramming into a worn tool which...

    Somebody slap me....

That's my concern, too. I'm pretty sure it's a MR/HPR code violation, altho I think it could be flown under EX rules. I know there are some nosecones used in EX with metal tips on them to tolerate the heat at high speed. But I'm pretty sure a metal cone is not allowed under the MR/HPR rules...

    idiots with guns...

Back in 2002, I spent a week or so in the UK. While there, I spent a fair amount of time driving, and listened to talk radio while at it. A common item in the media was some poor farmer who'd shot an intruder in his house. Seems the man's shotgun wasn't registered, and he was likely going to...

    Jet Hitch Thrusters

Have you ever been to a top fuel drag race? I promise you, those nitro burning V-8's are plenty loud. Doug .

    Cluster Gap Staging

BTW, that's do-able. The trick is having a break-apart booster. That is, as each booster motor burns out, it and its fin separate from the rest of the rocket without pulling any other motors away prematurely (before they light their respective sustainers). There are more pieces to gather - it...

    Cluster Gap Staging

If you want to do a clustered booster, one approach is to use a burn string. This holds the rocket on the pad until the center motor is lit. This helps ensure the sustainer lights. That is, with a cluster where the center motor lights the sustainer, the rocket could well leave the pad with...

    Radio Shack - buh-bye

FWIW, the camera business is getting squeezed by the cell phone business. That is, the dwindling camera section is not due to poor marketing on the part of Fry's, but due to the trend of folks using their iPhones to take pics rather than using a Nikon or Canon. (That said, I'm a Nikon guy -...

    Radio Shack - buh-bye

I think that's more of function of the proliferation of broadband than shrinking demand. Nowadays, everything's a download (and the infrastructure is in place to support it). Doug .

    Radio Shack - buh-bye

Products from those companies always appealed to me, but they never seemed like great values. A Dynakit stereo amp or receiver cost almost the same as an assembled store-bought unit. There was little incentive to do the assembly myself. I will agree, there was some learning achieved, but not...

    Radio Shack - buh-bye

I don't think the customer base is compatible with the corporate world. That is, the typical Radio Shack customer doesn't fit the preferred demographic - they're not as predictable nor as easily lured by advertising. That said, I've found my stores here well stocked, and staffed by competent...
