A nose cone with a plug at the tip would be great. Fill it with water for the trip up and let it drain away on decent for an easier landing.

I've used a replaceable bamboo skewer mounted between the motor mount and the BT that sticks out 4 or 5" to protect fragile fins at landing. Just a thought...

Or just put an eye in the top of the motor. Air-popped popcorn is a great filler for extra space; biodegradable and keeps chutes from moving around during acceleration when using shorter motors, etc.

Drill a hole on the other side, smooth the edges, and run kevlar in one and out the other. Put eyes on the kevlar as a harness. If you ever need to replace it tape the new piece to the old and pull it through the two holes for a new harness.

If I read this right, the nose cone doesn't separate completely from the rocket until the 5000 foot event. This should keep the tracked potion much closer to the untracked parts so a second tracker is not as critical. Or lower the separation point further.
