HPR Motor in stores in Virginia!

I don't remember this but it does sound like me. I'm a big fan of supporting a vendor that puts in the time, money, and effort to show up to a launch. It's important for the hobby to have those guys there and I want make sure it's worth their time. Besides, who doesn't want another (bigger) motor?

What Was Your Path to the Aerospace Industry? Rocketry Career Advice?

Since this thread has been revived... Now is the time for students to be applying for 2024 summer internships. I'll repeat my earlier suggestion to look at the Space Workforce 2030 website as one option: https://swf2030.org/national-space-interns/

    Mobile open rocket?

A couple years ago, I started thinking about a similar idea. I didn't have any desire to design/visualize rockets on my phone, I just wanted to run a simulation like I do with Thrustcurve but using OpenRocket and my pre-defined rockets (from Ork files). The plan I had was develop a REST-like...

    Safety Incident from NSL:

No. That's not how altimeters or pyro charges work. If they fired, there was a reason. The world is complicated and root cause analysis is hard. Saying you don't know why they fired is fair and honest; saying they fired for no reason is disingenuous In the this incident, we can know the...

    Safety Incident from NSL:

Unexpected I believe, inexplicable I don't. There are a lot of reason a user may be surprised by an charge firing (mostly user error). If you can't determine the root cause afterwards, the unit should be returned to the manufacturer for evaluation to determine the cause. Electronics and...

    The Top Programming Languages 2023

This is what makes Python so powerful. It's easy enough to teach a middle school student, capable of powering the backend of some of the of some of the world's largest websites, and flexible enough for all manner of data science. Like Handeman said, the right tool for the right job...

Recommendations for Software for Real Time Telemetry Plotting (Python is too slow?)

The trick is that pyqt doesn't really handle any of the plotting, it's just displaying a qt canvas which matplotlib is driving. Things get sketchier when you add significant qt-driven plot interactions. It's a shame PythonQwt isn't (wasn't) well maintained, it was a very nice, well performing...

Recommendations for Software for Real Time Telemetry Plotting (Python is too slow?)

The Python global interpreter lock (GIL) makes this (mostly) unnecessary but also means that Python threads aren't unique processes and your performance improvements are heavily dependent upon the application. For something like this project, a thread will often help because the GIL will be...

    3D Printing Printing help!

The IR thermometer is the wrong tool for that job. The thermometer is reporting the average brightness temperature of everything in the detector's field-of-view. Add to that, most metals (including those making up the hot end) have fairly low emissivity and any temperature you measure will be...
