Rebuttal to R/C Rocket glider article in latest 2020 Sport Rocketry

Another source of RC rocket glider 'kits' are existing balsa delta wing models. Though, I must admit that some conversions work better than others. For example, Brodak Manufacturing has a model of the Canadian Arrow delta wing jet...

Mega Baron from Arkansas [Squirrel Works]

And here is "Baron von Munchausen" riding a cannonball. Seemed appropriate. [These decals are from my Me-163 kit. 'Baron von Munchausen riding a cannon ball' was one of the unofficial unit badges for JG400, which was the Me-163 fighter squadron.]

Mega Baron from Arkansas [Squirrel Works]

I had troubles with the decals that came with the Mega Baron kit, so I used some leftover decals from my Me-163 kit. I was wanting to keep a World War 1 look, and these crosses are correct for German aircraft in mid 1918.

Scissor Wing 2X (old school 1980) [Dynasoar Rocketry]

Step 1 - Yes, battery was plugged in on launch pad: I tested it. Step 2 - No ....... Battery was no longer plugged in to the receiver. Battery in nose cone. And the mistake I made was not securing the receiver. There was no velcro on the receiver to hold location on the rocket. I did have...

Scissor Wing 2X (old school 1980) [Dynasoar Rocketry]

By the way, my Zephyr HPR (from Apogee) flew great!

Scissor Wing 2X (old school 1980) [Dynasoar Rocketry]

Lawn dart. What happened? :questions: I forgot to put down some tape/velcro to secure the receiver. When I recovered the model, the battery was in the tip of the nose, not connected. As bad as it is, it's not that bad. Time to repair and rethink.

Me-163 Komet from Arkansas [by Klima at Apogee]

So, now what? As bad as the flight looked, there is still a somewhat viable model. The D24 is too much power, too quickly. The D2.3 is not enough. I find myself wondering about the good ol' E6-RC by Aerotech. This motor is par excellence for rocket gliders. I might do a root canal on the...

Me-163 Komet from Arkansas [by Klima at Apogee]

And it did not go well. The rocket glider had its top facing me, with the launch rod angled away from the flightline. At launch, the model made a tight arc on its back. It did not go more than 25 feet in the air, and into the grass. There was NO TIME TO RESPOND. :barf:

Scissor Wing 2X (old school 1980) [Dynasoar Rocketry]

This is not how I meant to set up the forward swing wing servo, but it appears to work.

Scissor Wing 2X (old school 1980) [Dynasoar Rocketry]

Looking at the forward servo, that releases the Swing Wing.

Scissor Wing 2X (old school 1980) [Dynasoar Rocketry]

I am not using a release mechanism at the pivot disk. I intend to use a servo near the forward stop to release the wing rotation.
