    Stinger Build Thread

Never one to leave well enough alone... I brainstormed while whittling away at the shroud of my Stinger kit how I might make this one a little different. I didn't want to go for a military feel, I wanted something civilian in nature, maybe a racing vehicle of some sort, with a hot-rod feel...

    Dead Ringer Build Thread

I know there's already one of these threads...but it's my first true MMX so I am proud of it. I wanted to try to do something different with my little Dead Ringer and the open area of the fins was beckoning me. I've always liked the 'string art' that middleschoolers do with yarn and nails...

First MMX experiences soon will come

Well, things have been quiet on the rocket front until ....SS in July brings me my first MMX kits and engines! I got a Dead Ringer and a Stinger, plus about 30 engines. Toying around with the idea of clustering the Stinger like Micro did. Ooh ooh ooh and I'll get to use some of Banjo's...

OT: Transformers and other SF stuff for sale

Not sure if this is OK in yardsale, so i'm putting it here. I'm selling off some of my Transformers and other SF Collectibles to pay for new endeavors in rocketry. eBay link here: https://shop.ebay.com/dragon_rider10/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562 Many more will be posted in the coming week...

    Cluster booster

I'm considering a BT-80 based 2-stage bird. I'd like to have it able to fly single stage on 24mm composites or staged with BP. Would it be possible to cluster 4x 18mm staged to a single 24mm? I'm wondering about the reliability of staging the partially aligned engines. Anyone...

    o/t the Disney Dream

Just got off the preview cruise of the brand new Disney Dream. What a fantastic cruise ship! The first official sailing started today. I gotta admit my job has perks. Just wish I could have taken my family with me! If anyone wants to see photos of my experience i'll be happy to share.

    Fliskits - Thing-a-ma-Jig (SP015) Gallery

Just for fun.... The sparkle paint has potential, people. Mod edit: I just checked the Fliskits site and learned that the Thingamajig predated the Whatchamacallit and is the archetype. As a result, since a Thingamajig thread has been created, I am conflating the two.

    Interceptor E -> Interceptorski Build

The Interceptor E was the shining jewel of the United States' space defense fleet. It's performance and lethality were unmatched... until... the Russians stole one. Using the stolen craft as a blueprint, the Soviets modified and improved the design. They christened it the SU-99...

    Tractor rockets

The NARAM 52 coverage in the current issue of SR got me interested in the competition aspect of our hobby. The one thing I was curious about was the use of tractor rockets for 4a cluster altitude. I didn't see any illustrated. Does anyone have a photo of an example?

    Igniting engines with lasers?

What's the scoop with all these Aerotech Facebook posts about laser ignition. Specifically referring to a company called Survival Laser. Seems like that might be more trouble than its worth. In theory I could see using one to ignite a BP motor since the propellant is near the opening of the...

What national event draws the most TRFers?

If I had to choose one national rocketry event to attend next year, what one would be the best if my primary purpose is to meet fellow TRFers? NARAM? LDRS? NARCON?

    Toy Drive

My father is on the board of a local Christian charity. They are sponsoring a toy drive. He has mentioned that their greatest need is for children between the ages of 9-13, which is prime rocket age. I know we're not fond of thinking of rockets as toys, but I had a crazy and perhaps naive...

Pray for rain!! Bunnell Blast 2010.

If we don't get any rain, we'll have to postpone the annual NEFAR Bunnell Blast! Weather has been too dry, and fire danger is significant.

    Newest project - Tau Stingray

I was trying to keep this under wraps, as I've been a bit frustrated with the progress on the model. The shroud was much more tricky than I anticipated. BUT...it's turning out so cool I had to share it. Inspired by Tony's Steampunk ACME Spitfire, I wanted to really embellish a kit to enhance...

How to irritate a Fighter Pilot

So I spent yesterday at NAS Jax for the annual air show. I try my best to never miss this fantastic show. Each year they alternate whether it's at the beach or the Naval air station. My favorite shows are the ones at NAS, because you have the static displays of all sorts of aircraft...

    Shrox - Alien 8 Gallery

Shots of completed rocket: I discovered i had the leftover afterburner assembly from an SR71 kit that made a nice addition to the Warp pod, and would be less likely to impact terra firma. Post copied to gallery with permission

    Moment of humerous puzzlement

So i'm sitting at the 'ol workbench today, trying for the life of me to get the shroud on my Stingray to work the way it was intended (darn you Jim, I'm a travel agent not a rocket scientist). I hold the thing up to my eye level to try and align things properly, and I get a whif of BP smell...
