    Engine choice scratch build L1

If you're planning on the H135 in a scratch rocket, before drilling a delay, you should model this in OpenRocket. It should give you the estimated time to apogee that you can then drill to. I'd hate to see you drill something too short and have the chute pop out while still travelling really...

Kit or scratchbuilt level 2 rocket

Kits for my L1 and L2 certs. I then flew several scratch built L1 and L2 airframes before going for my scratch built L3 cert. I prefer the challenge of fully designing and building a rocket.

    Eyebolt backing out?

If you're really worried, drill a tiny hole through the bolt and stick a cotter pin through it. If the bolt starts to back out, it will stop dead in its tracks when it hits the pin.

    L3 Airframe Material?

My L3 was an 8" x 13' Quickcrete tube wrapped in FG. Choose whatever materials you are comfortable with.

Binder Design Excel Level 1 Certification Build

I did my L1 and L2 on Excels. I went with the 54 mm mount and used an adapter to 38 mm. Great flyer and beautiful rocket. Best of luck!

    L2 Time

Here the checklist I used for my L3. Feel free to repurpose. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bmPqqj4WoUNTMHDFkCRuPwaKkhFeMJiD2O1Q8uuy0Xg/edit?usp=drivesdk

    Level 1 cert.

The flat back end of the rocket is perfect for an aeropack retainer. I use them all the time for all size rockets up to and including my L3 rockets. https://aeropack.net/motorretainers.asp

    L2 Time

Best of luck. You got this. Just remember to study for the test, and don't let nerves scramble your brain. Remember a flight checklist so you don't forget anything critical. Go fever can really mess people up.

M982 Excalibur Artillery Shell (BT-80 Version)

Is your schematic showing a bit of a tapered tail? Won't that cut base drag? Careful of the stability hit there when shrinking the fins. I don't know how much GDS will contribute to stability relative to the fins.

Scratch Build - Excalibur Artillery Round

Yep. Looking at composites warehouse. They have 6" fiberglass and a 4:1 nose that are nice. Leaning that route, but I do love the challenge of fully scratch building.

Scratch Build - Excalibur Artillery Round

Beautiful launch. The 24" M4500 might... might fit. I'd need to get creative internally, but challenges are fun.

Yeah. Those Super Thunders look nice. Been looking at my options there.

Scratch Build - Excalibur Artillery Round

Been looking at the Super Thunder engines. They might fit the bill. I usually check Loki first since I like to support him. I didn't see any L to M motors that are short enough to fit in my airframe or had sub second punchy thrust. Yup! Still in the stl area. Been stupidly busy as a director at...

You going to go for a short burst, punchy motor?

Scratch Build - Excalibur Artillery Round

Now the question... Do I roll my own fiberglass? Do I fiberglass a 6 inch cardboard tube like I did with my 8 inch PAC3 Patriot? Or do I buy any inch fiberglass tube from a commercial source?

Scratch Build - Excalibur Artillery Round

I like the find in the second version, but it's moving the center of pressure more foreward. I'd need to add a ridiculous amount of nose weight. It's already kind of ridiculous.

Scratch Build - Excalibur Artillery Round

I thought I could get a hold of one, but no luck. I'm looking at some Warp9 alternatives or some fast burn Aerotechs running two motors.
