Estes gives you the chance to bring one rocket back. What would it be?

I would have to vote for the return of the Magnum #2032 Sweet rocket all around. Big two-stage with payload section. I believe the nose cone is the same as used in the Star Orbiter. BT-60 5:1 ogive.

    Neil_W's half-baked design thread

You could put something that leaves a smoke trail on the tip of the nose cone. Sky writing either way. Seriously though, looks really cool so far Neil! That eraser tip looks perfect. What is your plan for attaching the fins?

    Neil_W's half-baked design thread

In-flight testing is king, is it not? My Falcon 9 flew fine with the stock fins, but those occasional rougher-than-normal landings is what cracked them *every time* I would personally go with one step thicker than that.

Tongue-in-cheek suggestion for "Level 4"+ certs

So maybe Level 4 starts at P impulse since the highest comercially available(more or less) is an O. P to S impulse for L4. Maybe Level 5 starts at T equivalent up to... Z(83.9 MNs) That would make the Falcon 1 a Level 6 rocket?

Tongue-in-cheek suggestion for "Level 4"+ certs

After watching the latest Spacex news, I began wondering; Like we do with motor classifications beyond S, what would some hypothetical certifications be beyond Level 3? What level cert would Elon Musk be, if it went that far? For example: Level 4 = 100,000 ft altitude Level 5 = Karman line...

Your most jinxed rocket what is it?

Mine is the Estes Magnum. I built one back around 1991-ish, that staged fine but lawn darted on the maiden flight. Tossed it in the trash out of frustration. Fast-forward 25 years or so and I built a clone from scratch. On that maiden flight, the C11-0 booster CATOed, leaving the rocket in a...

Using A D Engine Casing As A B/C Engine Motor Mount.

I've done it before as well. In a pinch, it can work, but adds a lot of weight at the aft end so make sure it's still stable with the new CG and lower thrust motor.

    MJG BP Starters

I ordered mine via USPS and it didn't take long at all. At the last launch I was at, I used about 8 Estes starters to get two rockets off the ground. Can't wait to try these at the next launch!

    Upcoming InSight Mars Lander Launch

When are they going to add some sort of audio/video feed from one of these landers? Even if it was a recorded video of the landing sent back when time allowed would be great. Even if it was a $5 808 cam equivalent, some kind of video would be really cool to see. Now I know audio on the surface...

Cute Maths Problem I stumbled on in New Scientist today...

Wait, wait. That solution is incorrect. I saw the diagonal line thing right away, but ONE solution didn't work for ALL scenarios. Also violates not knowing the position of the crop, which is necessary for drawing a line through it's center. The problem, as written, does not have a solution. The...

Why NOT to use automated car washes

Good Lord. I'm currently waiting in line for a touchless car wash as I read this. :y:

North Korea - connecting the dots...

This whole thing gets stranger. Never thought Kim would do what he did today. Of course he can never be trusted. Makes me wonder what exactly is his scheme this time. Maybe trying to get the US off his back for a decade so he can work a bit more "unwatched" / money flowing in / etc? This does...

North Korea - connecting the dots...

What makes sense is that Kim realized his time is up. No more threatening to get concessions. Game Over. No dictator "plans" their humiliation. This would be a way for Kim to run to safety under the Chinese nuclear arsenal while saving face. I wonder how this is being twisted on NK television?

    Level 1's will you L2?

My last I motor was $50, so I'm not in any hurry to go L2. I suppose I could just take the test and splurge on a baby J. But why now when I won't be flying Js or Ks anytime soon? There's still so much fun to be had with LPR, so someday I'll end up with L2 & L3. No rush at all, I'm having fun as-is.

    The "NEW" Estes Request Thread...

Yes. My two suggestions for "bring-backs" are: A new PS-II style Optima. Same as they did for the Super Big Bertha. Magnum #2032. Please.

New member from AR and a silly observation

The Super Nova is one of my favorites. I built one back in 1989 or so that crashed(with caterpillars in the payload..oops) and I built one of the new re-issue models. A good combo for a two-stage flight is B6-0/B6-6. Here is a video of a two-stage Super Nova flight: CcrQqek0_q4

    Hobbico Sale of Estes

I (and pretty much every Estes website customer) got that email too. Basically it looks like they're telling you that your account info and history will be transferred to the new owner unless you say no. I don't see any reason you wouldn't want your info transferred over, but some might not...
