    Rocketry Find!

Rocketarium kits are pretty nice - mix of old school, high quality bits with laser cut fins - absolutely worth $3!

    BMS Saturn V 1/195 build

In case you haven’t found it, here’s a link to Chris Michielssen’s build - I’ve read through it a couple times but haven’t started building my kit yet, greatly interested in how this build goes… http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot.com/search/label/BMS%20Saturn%20V

Estes Pro Series II Launch Rail Ideal for ARC Teams?

Not to drift this thread too far but, as already mentioned, Estes sure didn’t do themselves any favors with the really bad pictures they released of this - it’s definitely not a good thing when random folks on FB put out better pictures of a product than the people trying to sell it! When it...

Estes Pro Series II Launch Rail Ideal for ARC Teams?

Two members of the Model Rocketry, USA FB page, page admin Louie Berlin and page member Raymond Michael Caswell both have one and both have reported it’s much better in person than the pictures Estes posted - they both posted pix as well and it definitely looks better in those than what we’ve...

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

🚨Thread Drift Alert 🚨 The Estes Patriot is, dimensionally, pretty much spot on for the MIM-104A, fin span and paint scheme excepted - but their version isn’t very much different than the LOC version. The paint scheme is, apparently, derived from a trade show mock-up. Estes doesn’t claim the...

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

This has been said before, by me as well as others, but one thing to keep in mind is that Estes is now, after a very long time, a privately owned, standalone company. We’re still in a transition period for what has to have been a very big change for how they operate now compared to being just...

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

It’s the magnification effect of the internet - for the hundreds (likely thousands) of “normies” who are satisfied with their nifty new full color catalog that cost them less than a cup of fancy coffee there’s a few dozen of us who’d, as my dad says, would complain if you hung ‘em with a new rope.

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

As mh9162013 referenced above, the Pro Series Parts Assortment comes with railguides.

    Estes New Launch Rail

1010 - it’s in the item description on page 56 of the 2024 catalog.

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

It’s currently available on the Estes website - $169.99. Not a particularly good value but there’s definitely some who’ll think the convenience is well worth the cost.

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

The new Space Shuttle is part of the 1/200 scale RTF line along with the Falcon 9, SLS, Saturn 5, and New Shepard.

    EnerJet F52-12C

That would work - I did a quick couple of sims in Thrustcurve and a So Long (sustainer only) or an Aspire both show approximately a 12 second delay. The apogee is pushing 3800 feet so if you want it back you’ll need a tracker of some kind or really, really good eyes!

    EnerJet F52-12C

I’ve used long delays on lighter rockets with my Chute Release but never one that long. It would work with a dual deploy setup using the motor ejection as a backup or the second recovery event.

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

Between eRockets, Aerospace Specialties, Balsa Machining, Apogee, Rocketarium, Sirius, Boyce, LOC, etc and all the 3D print files available from the usual sources plus decals from Stickershock and CMR/Tango Papa there’s not much you can’t scratch build if you want to. Back when Estes/Centuri...

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

Both big Saturn Vs are now 29mm powered - that definitely bodes well for the PSII line n the long run. If you count those 2 as PSIIs that makes 10 total kits…

Guess for new rockets in the Estes 2024 Catalog

I hadn’t thought about the mini Alpha and Bertha being the same style as the Star Hopper - makes them a bit more interesting.

No More D12-3 at Hobby Lobby?

HL doesn’t list the D12-3 on their website - the website is typically a reflection of what the store’s have access to, hopefully we’ll see the -3s available again on the site and at all the stores.

Bigger Daddy / accidental BMS school rocket clone

Not terribly hard to drill out that motor block. I’ve pretty much stopped using them on any rocket with a threaded style retainer.

Need some input on Level 2 cert Dual deploy or parachute?

I used my JLCR for my L1 flight along with a streamer (rather than a drogue) and it worked out well. The caveat being that I’d flown many times using that combination with a variety of motors and rockets so I had a good base of experience. As already mentioned, practicing is never a bad thing.

No More D12-3 at Hobby Lobby?

HL only stocks motors that work with the rockets they sell - the D12-5 is a recommended motor for the Hi-Flier XL, Cherokee E and Olympus. The D12-3 is the recommended motor for the Olympus while lifting an egg but not for the other two 24mm powered kits. Rationalizing inventory is most likely...
