    Another Saturn IB

Well hello, Internet! It's time to revive this thread as I hope to fly this thing at LDRS! Many things have to happen. I need to fix the coupling of stages. This will involve making the outer tube structural and not relying on a stuffer tube. Also, I need to change the way the airstarts work...

    [RFC] FreeCAD Rocketry Workbench

Using a browser, try connecting to github.com. You may have blocked access for whatever reason. If you can connect then the add on manager should work fine.

    [RFC] FreeCAD Rocketry Workbench

At the moment the most useful workflow is importing from OR to produce 3D printable objects like nose cones, etc. or for CNC machining, laser cutting, etc. They're definitely complementary, not competitive. One thing I'd like to do for you is expand your list of nose cone shapes, but I have the...

Also, I know someone was asking about exploded views during vNARCON. This was done using the Exploded Assembly workbench. FreeCAD workbenches often work together like this.

:) It's been there since the original version. I've been improving the UI over time, so perhaps it was that? Or is it like car keys "I swear I looked there!" when your wife points at them.

Sounds like you should use the Centering Ring instead. Make the center hole the right size for your eye bolt.

If you've followed the directions and it still doesn't appear, then I'd say the most likely issue is it's not seeing the git tool. The preferences page says you need GitPython, which I've never installed separately, but I have git tools installed for development. Perhaps the GitPython package...

Calculating fin flutter using NACA TN 4197: Open Questions

Wow. I knew this thread would have either no response or be a treasure trove of knowledge. Luckily it's the latter. Time to brush up some atrophied math skills. Thanks everyone!

Calculating fin flutter using NACA TN 4197: Open Questions

For straight or symettrically tapered fins yes. In particular, NACA TN 685 has a lot of wind tunnel data. It also has a more generalized model for calculating flutter, but as you can imagine it's much greater effort to implement than this simplified model. So I started here first. I don't have...

Calculating fin flutter using NACA TN 4197: Open Questions

The NACA 1497 is based on many simplifying assumptions. This one is no less reasonable.

Calculating fin flutter using NACA TN 4197: Open Questions

Fin flutter is more about resonance within the fin. and FEM is used to model that resonance. FreeCAD can also do CFD but that's not typically how flutter is analyzed. Obviously that's an extremely simplified answer. Others may be able to explain it better.

Calculating fin flutter using NACA TN 4197: Open Questions

FreeCAD uses CalculiX for FEM, and it's included with the distribution. I've already started looking into creating a workflow specific to fin flutter, but that's going to take time. In the meantime, this method is available now, and it's been proven solid. It won't handle all possible cases...

Yes, and I've already started looking into that. FreeCAD has FEM capabilities as well. But, starting with the simple first...

Calculating fin flutter using NACA TN 4197: Open Questions

Yup. Just wondering if anyone had come up with any corrections that would allow for this. I knew the answer before I asked but it was worth a shot.
