Ok sometimes things get a little sloppy. I am asking because I am sure I'm not the first to have this problem. Alcohol? Paint thinner?

DesignQues: Couplers for boosters - rule of thumb?

Hi all, I am designing a booster for a BT70 sized rocket, and am wondering if there is a 'rule of thumb' for the length of the coupler into the sustainer? From doing some research, it appears to be 3/4 - 7/8 of the diameter, at least for fiberglass. This is a 2.5- 2.625" length for a 3"...

Hello all, I wanted to share a video from the EEVBLOG website about soldering Surface Mount components. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9FC9fAlfQE This video is by David Jones who has been doing this work for decades. Just some warning: He is Australian so he says sauldering and...

RCS fuel grains and required certification??

Hello all, I have been looking at the RCS site (Rocket Motor Components) and their fuel grains and 'Experimental Motor Kits'. My questions are: 1. Do I need to have an L2 cert to build some of the 29mm loads? 2. How do I determine a letter designation to give it? RCS sells fuel grains as...

Looking at CTI hardware, what is the limit on the number of spacers?

I am looking at getting CTI 29mm hardware for my L1. The CTI 3 grain case Certification Special is a little tough to get from Apogee. If I get a 'free' 4 grain case can I still fly 1 grain motors in it? Am I limited to the number of spacers like Aerotech? Thanks in advance.

Rocketry Anonymous - The 14 step plan

    1. I promise never to buy a kit because it is a good deal until the build/kit shelf is empty! :flyingpig: 2. I promise never to pay Second Day Air, when the shipping is more than 60% of the product cost! 3. I promise to never blow the monthly budget given by she who must be obeyed...

Krylon ColorMAXX primer stinks - Krylon responded.

Hello all, I have been using the Krylon ColorMAXX acrylic paint with very good results for a rattle can. I was having issues with the primer though in that it just gummed up the sandpaper. I contacted Krylon and here is their response: I am glad to hear that you have had good results with our...

    Aerotech discontinuing 24mm hardware ??

Please disregard this thread. I asked the same question in the Aerotech Open Thread. The reply from Aerotech was that they were exceedingly behind in the case production, and the other items I pointed out were merely oversights. 24mm is alive and well. If the forum masters could delete this...

Rocksim 9 - deplay at altitude problem?

Hi I am trying to mockup a dual-deploy in Rocksim 9. When I edit the 'Flight Events' I select 'first parachute' at apogee. When I select the second chute, deploy at altitude, I enter a number of feet as requested but the event never occurs. If I set the second chute for 'time after apogee'...

    Estes Advanced Target Drone #1913

I had done a review of the latest Estes Designer Special 'Box O' Parts' and here is the first rocket out of that box. There was a nose cone of the correct shape but it was one inch too short. I increase the main tube length from 11" to 12" to get the correct length. I had spoken to various...

How much 'dog barf' do I use?

All, I am impressed by the 'over acheiving' ejection charge on Estes engines. It has been awhile but I do not remember 'loud pops' for ejection. Anyway, after melting a couple of chutes today with the crappy toilet paper :flyingpig:, how much dog barf do I use? I am flying BT-50's with B or...

    Decal Paper? Any good?

Hello all, I would like to scratch build an Advanced Target Drone but am unable to find the decals. I was wondering what your results were with decal paper for my inkjet printer. It is recommended to spray the decals with clear acrylic after printing. Is this an immediate operation or do I...

Okay it has been a LOT of years since I was building rockets so bear with the old guy. I was able to pickup a pair of the Alien Invader which is one of my favorite models. Don't ask me why but... Laser cut fins! Oh my we were dreaming of laser cut back then. Anyway, I started cutting the...

Product review: Estes Designer's Special (AKA Box o' Parts)

Hello all, It has been several decades since I have built and flown rockets.:surprised: The 'old boy' caught the fever again. Anyhow, I was intrigued by the Designer's Special (I like my name better Box o' Parts) so decided to purchase and explore. Estes marketing for this product is...
