Apogee Flying Machine, who's got one?

I just finished mine. There are a lot of things I would do differently if I were to rebuild one, but it looks pretty good. If the weather cooperates I hope to launch it this Saturday.

    Cutting Slots in Fiberglass

Just use the Dremel or equivalent. If I can do it, you'll have no issues.

Dear Decision-Makers in Penrose: More Plugged Rocket Engines, Please!

I've been thinking about this as well. Something 3D printed that would tightly thread into the top of a C6-0 motor casing to "plug" it. It could be completely single use. How would this be any different from the approved dog barf + tape?

LPR Idea: 12V Rocket Launch System Schematic Using Transistors Configured as Darlington Pair; Also MOSFET-based Circuit

That is what I use when flying all my various incarnations/upscales of the NCR Cluster Duck with black powder motors. I have always used them in series, MJG specifically calls out that either will work: https://electricmatch.com/rocketry/see/23/6/bp-rocket-starters

    Mobile open rocket?

The most simple answer is to invest in a Windows-based tablet. The MS Surface Go 3 can be had new for as little as $399. I use mine as a nightly e-reader, as well as a browser and it has no issues running RockSim at the field. I assume Open Rocket would run just as well.

Any RV people on the board?

You can always build your own RV: This rig did us for 5-6 years. It was great having exactly what we want, where we wanted it. Unfortunately it was built completely out of wood, which was the only thing we were comfortable working with at the time, and it decayed over the years. It was...

Why do pinched nerves have to be such a pain?

I had constant, sharp pain in my left arm. I went to a neurologist and the x-rays showed badly collapsed disks. Was scheduled for surgery the next week to fuse C5-7 with cadaver disks inserted in the gaps. I have had no pain since and my neck flexibility is pretty normal, even with a titanium...

If only they had a Bandit upgrade parts kit, I'd buy a couple immediately!

    ICEs and EVs

My wife's 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV sounds like the Starship Enterprise when pulling into the garage. Or maybe just the teleporter.

    Clustering composites question

We didn't have any trouble getting three x K535W-14A going. We used the cluster box and stock igniters.

Project MESOS. A two-stage flight to 293,488 ft!

Another amazing thing about this was watching him push the launch button in the morning, and then come back to camp that afternoon with the booster and sustainer. No helicopter necessary!

I will 3d print three 54mm plugs and go from there. I'm not sure I dare ground test in my back yard, maybe wait until we are on the playa.

    Clustering Options

I plan on flying a 6" x 9.5' rocket on three K535 DMS motors this weekend. I'm starting to worry about how much black powder to use as the ejection charge. The 14 second delays are only about a second short from ideal, but I plan on using a chute release and can also fly it with electronics if...

Wanted 38mm Giant Leap Threaded Closure?

Is there going to be anyone at LDRS40 with a 38mm Giant Leap threaded closure for sale? I have lost the threaded ring to my 38mm SLIMLINE BELL-SHAPED NOZZLE RETAINER and will gladly buy the whole retainer even though I only need the 38mm threaded ring. I still have the tool, but managed to lose...

    The politics of incentives

I thought I was seeing the effect of my panels aging, and then 2020 was the highest production yet, with 2021 in second place. I guess this could be climate change contributing to clearer skies???

    Altimeter Vent Hole Location

The JLCR only cares about the pressure when it's turned on, when it gets above that at apogee, and then when it gets to the release altitude. All of those things happen outside the airframe.
