    Any Boaters on TRF?

While rocketry is definitely my number one hobby/ passion, boating/fishing comes in a close second. We probably spend about equal amounts of time fishing, cruising/tubing the reservoirs (we have some big ones in Oregon), and crabbing the bays for Dungeness. For the past twenty years I have...

    HPR Girandola Launch?

Most of us have seen video of the huge Girandola fireworks being launched in Thailand. I recently came across a video of this launch ("The first in Europe" according to its makers): https://youtu.be/h1szk_gchUw It looks like this could be done in accordance with Tripoli (maybe even NAR)...

    Aerogloss Sanding Sealer Over CA?

Can I safely apply Aerogloss sanding sealer over CA-soaked balsa? I soaked a balsa nosecone (for my son's Semroc Texas Firefly) in thin CA, sanded, and applied a second coat. It has sanded out fairly nice, but I feel like it could be smoother. Aerogloss is easier to apply/sand, so I was...

https://www.braincandylive.com/# Tickets just went on sale for their spring tour, I scored VIP tickets for my son and me! If you haven't heard of Brain Candy, it is a live science show put on by Adam Savage and Michael Stevens. I think most people know who Adam is, Michael is the host of...

    Rocketober in Brothers

Who plans on going? We are planning to as long as the weather forecast is halfway decent. Hoping to head over Friday after school and leave Sunday morning. We won't be taking the big Dragonfly, which is a bit of a relief - I hope to finally fly my own neglected rockets... Sent from my...

Aft Mounted Camera Onboard Video from Upscale Dragonfly

We took this video today at Fillible's Folly, an OROC launch held near Perrydale, Oregon each year. The rocket is a 5x upscale of the Binder Design Dragonfly. It was built by the Rock-It Girls, a team of five 6th/7th (now 8th/9th) grade girls. We built it over a period of seven months...

The Eclipse Apocalypse is Upon Us!

We live pretty much in the center of the path of totality, which will make for a great time Monday morning. It is, however, creating some logistical problems. Many gas stations are actually selling out of gas. Pallets of bottled water clutters the storefronts. Travel times on the freeways...

    Setting Up a Maker Space

What would you want, in terms of equipment, for a maker space? I am starting a new position at my school next year as a fifth through eighth grade science teacher. I have a double-size classroom that will be my classroom/lab. My principal just spoke with me to let me know that our...

The Rock-It Girls' 5x Upscale Dragonfly

I just finished uploading edited video of the Rock-It Girls' flights, please take a look! If you enjoy the video, please comment or give a thumbs-up, it means a lot to the girls. If you have constructive criticisms or suggestions I would love to hear from you, as the video is somewhat of a...

    4.1" Nosecone?

I could have sworn that I recently read about someone finding a 4.1" (fits a 4" ID tube) fiberglass nosecone. Does anyone know who might carry such a thing? Thanks!

Onboard Video from 5x Upscale Dragonfly - NXRS 2016

Onboard video from our upscale Dragonfly at NXRS 2016 I had initially thought that it hadn't captured the flight, but it turns out it was user-error on my part! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6Jq9-5t6Hw Rocket is 12.75"x122" with a 58" span. All carbon fiber, end-grain balsa, and...

    Tycor Core Material?

I have some 15mm Tycor core material on its way for a big rocket I'm doing with some of my students. Has anyone used this product? https://tycor.milliken.com/Pages/products-tycorW.aspx It is a fiber reinforced foam core used for wind turbine blades. Last year we used 1/2" end-grain balsa...

    Polecat Aerospace Goblin Measurements?

Does anyone have a 10" Polecat Aerospace Goblin that they could measure for me? I am looking at building a 15" version using a Thunderstorm nosecone and body tube. I would like to start messing around with Rocksim and it would be helpful to have the root chord, tip chord, and semi-span...

    Sonotube Questions

I'm looking at building a 12" Sonotube rocket and I have a few questions that I imagine TRF can help out with. First of all, which Sonotube? Finish Free, Commercial, Round, or Builders Tube? https://www.sonotube.com/sonotubeconcreteforms.aspx Second, does anyone have a link to...

    What is this? (Cold power?)

I found this in a box of old Estes stuff my neighbor gave me. It is smaller than 18mm, maybe 16.5mm or so in diameter. I don't plan to do anything with it, just curious.

What would you do with these?

I went to get some free fence posts today and came home with these! They are made to go on top of 12" pilings that hold docks in place. 6" cylindrical section with 10" transition. About 12.25" ID and 12.5" OD. A bit under 4.5 pounds. I'm not opposed to cutting up one or both.

Jet Engine in a Model Rocket?

There is another thread with a similar question that quickly turned into speculations about hundreds of G motors reaching space. I was actually curious if you really could put a jet engine (the RC type) in the aft end of a rocket. Would it have enough thrust? Would it be within NAR/TRA...

    Fillable's Folly

Who is going? I'll be on my way to Fillible's Folly in an hour or so, let's hope the rain holds off until the afternoon! We are going to launch our upscale Dragonfly on an L1520T and I hope to fly my latest Chester Chettah piloted rocket.
