    STS-126 -- Tomorrow

Haven't seen a thread for this yet, but maybe I'm wrong. STS-126, Endeavour is due to launch tomorrow evening (November 14th) at 7:55pm EST. Anyone headed out to watch? I'll have to remember to watch the webcast... I always seem to forget about that...

    First Private Spacecraft to Orbit

    Tick Susceptibility...

Very un-rocketry-related, but I figured I might as well ask here: Does anyone know if it's possible to possess a susceptibility to ticks? Over the past summer, I've probably found 10 or so ticks on me, and I've really not been outside all that much (in fact, many of the times I will find them...

    Good luck Phoenix

The Phoenix lander is set to touch down on Mars at 7:53:52pm tonight (EDT), +/- 46 second according to NASA.gov (for actual landing time, though, you have to subtract 15 minutes, 20 seconds from the scheduled time, due to the time lag in transmission, the given time is Earth-Receive Time [ERT])...

    General NAR Competition Question...

Something that I wanted to look into making for NARAM this year, though I am questioning it competitive legality, is a spider-style ignition piston launcher. Last year I built a floating head piston (the night before in the hotel room) for A-Helicopter duration, but it generally took about...

    QCR Rocket Glider Question

I recently airfoiled the main wing of my QCR "C" Rocket glider, and in the instructions it was said that if the trailing edge of the wing got very thin, then a piece of fiberglass packaging tape should be applied to reinforce that section. My trailing edge ended up being about 3/128ths of an...

    Small(ish) Computer Question

I recently expanded the memory in my Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad Z60m (2529) notebook from 512MB to 1536MB with a (supported) 1GB SO-DIMM card. Before I installed this, while the computer was idle the CPU speed usually ran at 0%, occasionally with a blip to 1-2%. After I installed it, the CPU is...

    Model Rocket Mass-Launch Record

Our local news station just showed a brief story and video of a group of Boy Scouts in Austin, Texas flying over 1000 (Mosquitos?) at the same time, breaking the current record. I was just checking to see if anyone here knew more about this, or if anyone was involved with the project. Thanks

    Intresting little detail...

Just noticed, as of about 5:40pm, the Scratch Built and Vendors forums are within 19 total posts of each other, with 28,690 and 28,671; respectively (about .066% difference). Just thought that was kind of interesting.

    It's Finally Done!

Semroc Mars Lander, kit #21 is finally completed, painted, and decaled! I finished the building part a couple months ago, but just never really got around to painting it. Over the past two days, though, it's finally gotten the sanding sealer, primer, paint, and (as of last night) decals...

Semroc's "The Amazing Point" Build Thread

Got two "Amazing Points", a NARAM edition and a reserved #9 production one. This thread will document the build of the NARAM version, but I'm pretty sure the two are the same kit (exept for the absence of a header card and an extra logo on the NARAM version's instruction sheet). Now, the...

    Shroud Program for TI-83/84

Wasn't exactly sure what forum to put this in, but I made a program for TI-83/84/+/SE (I've only used it on my Silver Edition, but it should work the same on any other calculators) that calculates shrouds that can be drawn/cut out/folded on paper. I used the equations from Tim Van Milligan's...

    Cool Video

https://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3968990559883852080&q=rocket+launch&pl=true It's a video of the Delta II that launched the "Spirit" lander to Mars. Lots of downward-looking onboard video that shows the strap-on's jettison and the ascent into space. Dial-up users (like me :()...

    eBay email scam?

Just a warning, I got an email from "ebay" saying something like: you're not answering my questions about your item, etc. (but the "item" supposedley ended on April 1st) The email is made to look like a standard ebay page, with all of the link-outs, but looking at the URL's for the link outs...

    SLS Laser-X Question

When glueing in the fins, the instructions say to also put glue on the tabs. I was wondering why this is, since the tabs don't glue on to anything. Thanks,

    Interesting Fact

Today marks the 80th anniversary of Goddard's first liquid fuel flight on March 16th, 1926 I made a model of it for a school project, maybe i'll be able to get out and fly it later.
