    TRF Secret Santa 08

Signed up a few weeks ago, I guess I ought to put up a list :) I'm thinking (definitely in no particular order): Dr. Zooch Soyuz, Saturn 1B, or Mercury Redstone Squirrel Works Dogfight Fliskits Morning Star

    STS-126 -- Tomorrow

MECO and External Tank Separation, looks like it was a great launch!

    STS-126 -- Tomorrow

1 hour, 40 minutes to launch, everything looks good so far.

    STS-126 -- Tomorrow

Haven't seen a thread for this yet, but maybe I'm wrong. STS-126, Endeavour is due to launch tomorrow evening (November 14th) at 7:55pm EST. Anyone headed out to watch? I'll have to remember to watch the webcast... I always seem to forget about that...

    Going to Space?

I did a design once staging an N4800--N4800--K250 (All in all, barely, barely more than a full O; 100.34% O, or a 0.17% P), and using lots of really long ignition delays on the various stages (14 sec delay on the second stage, 23 second on the third), got it to simulate out to nearly 337,000...

    Who's TARC'ing this year?

My team's competing again (Raleigh Charter High School) Haven't yet sent in the application (just got all the parent permission forms accounted for), but as of two weeks ago, we've made ~6-7 flights with our design.

    Semroc Mars Lander

From my experience, the 20" with a spill hole works just fine for most field conditions. I flew mine a few times in a semi-hard dirt field, and it has not sustained any damage to the leg structure in its 5-6 flights (almost always stuck the landing). The shock absorbers also look like they...

    great engineering game

So what if this is the most inefficient machine that can be conceived? It was way too much fun to build! :D https://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3491257 (It does get there, eventually...)

    great engineering game

One of my favorites I've done so far ("Handling") https://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3428100 The most minimal solution I could come up with to "Minimalism" https://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3391784 And a basic climbing-car ("Toe Crawler")...

Public Missles vs Aerotech vs LOC/Precision

Oh, and actually, here's a review of the exact setup you're describing. https://www.rocketreviews.com/reviews/kits/pml_amraam_4.shtml My dad used an AMRAAM 4 for his level 1 and 2 certification, and it was a very nice, sturdy kit.

Public Missles vs Aerotech vs LOC/Precision

I personally haven't personally used it, but there is a review and a couple of opinions here: https://www.rocketreviews.com/reviews/kits/pml_cpr.shtml.

So, has anyone flown one of these yet?

    Prototype This

I'm reserving judgment until I see an episode. From the commercials, it looked like it had a little of both... I think it'll be very hard to top Mythbusters (or just as hard to be worse than Smash Lab???).

    Engineering diciplines

Aeronautical/Astronautical under Aerospace? It's usually just aerospace, but there are a few differences where programs offer specific divisions between the two (Aeronautical->more focus on aircraft, aerodynamics, atmosphere-bound craft; Astronautical->spacecraft systems, structures, etc).

    Steve Fossett is missing

The above report now indicates that they have found human remains among the wreckage, enough to provide DNA for identification. Initially it had read that there were none present.

    First Private Spacecraft to Orbit

Whoops, looks like I completely missed the thread a couple posts down :o I thought I'd looked hard enough; ignore this...

    First Private Spacecraft to Orbit

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_1_Flight_4 https://www.spacex.com/ Anyone else hear about this? Seems like a pretty big step towards the future of privatized space exploration/research.
