    Why?

Vendors post to RP, N3, rmr, old_rockets, YORF, ROL and most every other widely known forum. What's "unique" about their participation here? Doug .

    Level 1 Madcow Striker Advice

38mm makes sense to me. Remember, you can always adapt down. Going the other way is much more difficult :) Assuming the 2.6" tube is a thick-walled (eg, LOC 2.56" type), the rocket should easily be capable of flying on H motors without need of fiberglassing. Other than the fins, this kit...

    Staging 1/2A6-2

It's good the booster wasn't fried :) If there was enough stiction to hold it all together that way, you must have made one heck of an effort to slide it together to begin with :) It sounds like the booster was way too tight on the sustainer motor. I find I have to frequently re-tape the...

    Staging 1/2A6-2

For scraping, I use drill bits. I pick the largest one which will fit into the nozzle, then give it a couple twists while pressing firmly against the propellant grain. Then I tap the nozzle end on the table top. If I see a bit of powder come out, it's ready to go. If you use gap staging...

    Staging 1/2A6-2

Very! No big deal. I usually go the other way and make it stick out even farther - about 1/2". On minimum diameter stagers, the motor is the staging coupler, so the longer the bit sticking out of the sustainer, the easier it is to keep the booster aligned on axis. I think it's more the...

    iTunes 8.01 Kills Internet Connection

Yes, get a Mac :) Seriously, Bunny, this is a perfect example of why my next machine's gonna be a Mac. Microsoft's been throwing patchy crap out for years and years, and it's finally coming back to haunt them in the form of users going elsewhere. Sorry I can't be more help with your...

    2009 Estes kits

Right. But generally speaking, you can borrow against orders. Bankers will lend money if you can demonstrate you have firm orders. Unless the borrower's not in good standing with the lender...which I surmise was the case at that time? Doug .

    Staging 1/2A6-2

I've had great success with them. While I've read negative things, my results have been quite good. I can't recall any not lighting, but there may have been one. The only one that comes to mind was IIRC an old, old 1/4A3-4T in which the delay quit burning resulting in a lawndart, but the...

    Filling after Priming?

It's for scratches and spots, so you only use a little dab at a time. Hence, you only want to buy it in small quantities. So that's how they sell it. The one in the pic is 4.5 oz (wt). Other brands are available, in comparable sizes. It's one part, air dry. Spread it on thin. The only...

    Filling after Priming?

He's not talking about regular Bondo (polyester body filler). He's talking about spot filler, which is used to fill scratches that show up after priming. It dries very fast, and has good adhesion to primer. You spread it on thin, and you can be sanding in 20 minutes or so. I normally use the...

So much for my theory. Anybody got some burn ointment? :) Doug .

    Pro-54/1g

My take is that no reloads are available for the 1G case. I guess you could munge your own by removing a grain from a 2G load and cutting the liner down, but you have to address whether the nozzle is suitable. (OB: Keep in mind this wouldn't be certified.) What I think really happens with...

    Pro-54/1g

Yours is 6" long. It was stated elsewhere it may be mis-labelled, but the 2G case is 9" long, so it appears you do indeed have some sort of rarity. Doug .

Do you plan you're day's flights or decide on site?

I plan all my flights, although, if conditions are unfavorable, I may leave some unflown. Much of my flying is BP clusters and stagers, and preparation is much more involved for those - not something you want to do at the field while dealing with the heat, wind, other rocketeers and heads-up...

    Estes Big Daddy

Caliper measurements are hard to trust. It's too easy to deform the tube while doing the measurement. (Sort of a Heisenberg uncertainty principle thing :) ) Anyway, I just measured the circumference of the Big Daddy's nosecone base. I got 9-3/16" which translates to an OD of 2.924", which...

    Estes Big Daddy

Hi, Wayne, That's an 0.060" wall - almost as thick as a PML phenolic tube. The Estes tube isn't that thick. I'm pretty sure the 0.035" listed (at BMS) is correct (or at least close enough :) ). Doug .

    Estes Big Daddy

Maybe a mailing tube, but not the LOC. In fact, the Estes tube (HBT-3000) can be used as a coupler for the LOC. As posted elsewhere in the thread, BMS has a suitable tube. One of these days I'm gonna build a new rocket to put under my Big Daddy nosecone :o Doug .

    "New" Estes Motors

Good idea. But you lose the option of motor ejection - not a big deal for mid-power and larger - but electronic deployment on D-powered rockets, while certainly not impossible, is a bit out of proportion. Doug .
